  10. I have several 04 and 05 Gaevert hens for sale, these were purchased as Young Birds from Terry McGeechan and Louella. I purchased them to try in the race loft but I race widowhood and the majority of the birds i received were hens, these havent been bred from. 11. In what price range.
  12. The bird cant race without a ring and i'm not sure of the legality of selling a bird without one, at auctions usually any unrung bird is "given" to the purchaser of its mate or similar to get round this.
  13. Lot 2 sold.
  14. Lot 1 sold
  15. I have 2 Pouw Brothers hens for sale, i purchased these cracking hens from Eddie Tonks in York but never bred from them. LOT 1.03 Light Cheq Hen. £40.00 Double grand daughter of Pouw Bros "Vechter" 8 firsts LOT 2.02 Cheq Hen £40.00 Double granddaughter of Pouw Brothers "Het Kanon" 10 firsts.
  16. So what range are u looking for, is this the Klein Dochter on yr website.
  17. There are some lofts in the UNC that in recent years train twice a day with remarkable results but these lofts would win anyway, trouble is a lot of fanciers are copying the training schedule without the knowledge of feeding to suit sometimes with disastrous results.
  18. Obviously first class birds Peter, maybe birds thast someone paid a fortune for and sent ill prepared to too great a task, now in the right hands doing really well. this has nothing to do with pedigrees, again for fear of repeating myself just because they were strays to your loft doesnt mean they dont have a pedigree. Well done on the performances by the way, do u have anything that might win Bourges for me.
  19. Yes, might pick up a bargain or 2 .
  20. Thats absolutely true Albear, couldnt agree more, thats why we're all in the same boat, just if its off 2 winners it MIGHT shorten the odds a bit. I was just making the point in reply to the comment that buying on the pedigree being rubbish, it might be the case but if the pedigree is accurate its got more going for it than any of the other theories, obviously you need to be close to the winners, apples not falling far from the trees thing. Davey, both Norman and his brother Ted died a few years ago now, while i was out of the game. Time Carl joined in here, can't get stirred for red and white.
  21. And just while i'm rambling on a bit lol, the list of attributes at the front are great for pigeon fanciers who are trying to have a team of birds that conform to certain standards (a bit like crufts), and they are nice to look at and make for a great hobby, but they have little bearing on winning races or breeding winners, how many of us have had birds that look and handle perfectly, have great eyesign, and cant get near the clock, yet other birds with exactly the same qualities can. Its not what you can see or feel that makes winners. just wish i knew what it was and could bottle it. Its only my opinion of course and would be interested in others views.
  22. Hi All You have got to assume that the pedigree writer is telling the truth to allow the debate, if someone offers you a bird from a pair with 6 wins each that are not much to look at or handle OR from a pair that look and handle perfectly but cant get home on the day (AND THERE ARE A LOT OF LOVELY LOOKING BIRDS THAT FIT THE BILL),anyone that goes for the bird from the pair with the 6 wins are buying the pedigree, ie its ancestry. And Peter just cos the bird came from under the bridge doesnt mean it wasnt well bred or have a good pedigree, it just means you havent seen it. And i agree with the bird dropping late at night by the way, a marvellous feeling. Davey B, High Southwick
  23. Although i didnt tick any of the boxes the 3% who ticked pedigree are probably the most correct. Bearing in mind that maybe 90% of any birds, no matter what eyesign they have, how long their wings are, how they handle, look, act in the loft or anything else will be rubbish. Countless studies have been done on Horses Greyhounds AND pigeons checking eyesign, measuring lengths of this and that, bone structure or whatever without arriving at any conclusions, the only factual thing affecting any livestocks prowess is its ancestry. Of course a lot of good pedigreed birds go in the bin, they also have a high failure rate but not as high as those with the other attributes. Ask a race horse dealer what he looks for, successful ancestry (or pedigree)
