Thanks for that Owen.

Id be interested to know what can be detected with a home microscope, obviously worms, canker and cocci, but can anything else be detected.

Hi pigeon 82 you mention pinhead oatmeal in this post but i have not seen it mentioned anywhere else, also it says 1/2 ounce per bird of superboost thursday and friday is this plus there normal feed, as 1/2 ounce dosn`t seem much when expected to race. Please can you clarify this thanks Thats just the morning feed, thursday pm is a form of race mix and theres no Friday pm. Regarding treating the birds we could debate it all day but most people do it, these veterinary examinations are all very well but expensive and everyone doesnt have access to an avian vet.

There was an article on the radio at the weekend about some people researching the night time activities of 200 domestic cats to try to explain the demise of wild birds, moles, voles etc because they cant understand why the numbers are depleted, they'll blame anything but the hawks

Are these perches spld.

i dont think it matters ,because all lofts are yards out any way with the map system ,some are a hundred yards out , The pigeon game is strange from that point of view,we set clocks to the second, check and double check, in the North East clocks are opened within an hour of the race which limits variation, we work the velocity out to 3rd decimals if its tight, and all to an approximate distance.

Isnt liquidised brewers yeast sold under another banner, is it zell.

This is like banging your head aginst a brick wall, pigeonscout i've already stated the members you are saying are being deceived are fully aware the bird has 2 rings, theyre not being deceived, theyre not a bunch of thickos, theyre aware and have the option to take part with 2 rings. And Frank Dooman, from your reply i can only assume you've had more pints than me.

I would disagree with going easy and looking for a team of 2 year olds, as monkey says they'll be mainly untried and might not have what it takes, and regard to taking things slowly and missing a couple of races can they handle the jump. I think i'd treat them as yb's and try a few tosses at 2 miles, 5 miles, 10 etc up to 20/25 then as many as you can. Difficult call but either way i would expect heavy losses when racing, best of luck.

Cant stay long boys as its fally down friday, we're never going to agree, over the years racing methods have changed primarily down to a handful of good flyers pushing the boundaries and using a little ingenuity, no-ones being hurt and no-ones being cheated, all the members involved in the races are aware of the 2 rings and all have the option to do the same, including the additional work involved At one time fanciers campaigned for natural only clubs to keep the widowhood men out, now top sprint men race young cocks on widowhood, its caled progress. Other countries race young birds out to 400 miles while we stick to 200, the 2 ring bit has allowed fanciers to make inroads into that distance and eventually it will become standard for distance fanciers, you see the specialist clubs now promoting 350/400 mile young bird races. There is no advantage in having 2 rings on a bird with regard to any fiddles or scams that some on here seem to have knowledge of, these can be done with a single ring if the fancier is so inclined, thankfully 99% of us are not, the 2 lofts and 2 owners scenario mentioned earlier is absolute rubbish. It just suits some fanciers to just stand there and shout "ur cheating" lo
-
BlueCheqPied can you tell me how 2 rings would enable you to race race a bird to 2 locations and how this would be done to benefit anyone.
-
Gazza, thiis bird couldnt have won the 08 yb and ob nationals then the 09 yb and ob nationals races cos it wasnt born in 08, its only wearing the ring, it wasnt actually there.
-
We've all gone for a pint Naedoos, catch u tomorrow.
-
Because it cant go in the old bird basket with an 09 ring in the register, but it can wear it. It has to be registered with an 08 or earlier ring, i thought that was the point of the thread.
-
Ahhhhh i think the penny might have dropped lol, its the covering up bit thats getting to you. Right i'll put it another way, the ring is covered to make it easier for race marking, iT DOESN'T NEED TO BE COVERED, but instead of the fancier saying to the marker,"read the 09 ring" or "read the 08 ring" the one not relevent is covered, its not covered to hide it lol, everybody knows what it is.
-
And please dont reply with "its cheating" or "its deceitful, theyre like saying "cos for" Nobodys complaining about being cheated or deceived.
-
I take your point that quite a few on here think its wrong but no one seems to be able to give any reason as to why they think that, for example what advantage does the double rung young bird give over those rung normally, the main objectors seem to be scots and the main reason given is that its deceitful and its cheating, although no members complain about being deceived or cheated. And those that do it have to work bloody hard to push these yb's and get them trained up, after they've trained the old birds, and before they train the main yb team. And as it stands it doesnt contravene any rules, and its unlikely any rules will be changed to prevent it.
-
Cant speak for other areas but in the north east some are trying to get a bit of distance into the young birds before sending them to the channel with the NFC thats all, you cant do it using our yb programme.
-
He'd have to have his clock in the 20 mile shorter loft, not saying much for the rest of his birds, but he doesnt need 2 rings on to do that, you can settle a bird to a friends loft with one ring on and do that if youre so inclined. That has nothing whatever to do with carrying 2 rings.
-
You couldnt get taken to court for not enforcing a rule that doesnt exist. You need to think clearly about what exactly youre trying to prevent, what is it about carrying the additional ring that makes it so horrifying to you, and what possible benefit would be gained by having the 2 rings registered to different people, theres only one member putting it in the basket and registering the metal ring.
-
With a split personality lol. If its clocked its metal ring has to tally with the one in the register, there would only be one written down.
-
At basketing youre only there to read its metal ring, rubber it and put it in the basket, whats under the tape is of no concern to you, why would you want to look.
-
Why would you want to take the tape off.

Go to "racing", "ideas and theories", "this system worked for my dad", sorry not technically capable of posting a link.
