  4. SADDLER ONE TIP TO GET THE COCKS TO TRAP LIKE BULLETS IS TO TAKE THEM AWAY FOR A TOSS BUT BEFORE YOU BASKET THEM TURN THE NEST BOWL OVER AND LEAVE THEM FOR FIVE MINS, THEN BASKET THEM UP AND PLACE THEIR HENS INTO THE BOX WITH THE BOWL STILL UPTURNED. AFTER A COUPLE OF TOSSES THEY WILL KNOW THAT ONCE THE BOWL GETS UPTURNED AND THEY GO AWAY IN THE BASKET THE HEN WILL BE THERE WHEN THEY GET HOME. AS SOON AS THEY GET THE HANG OF THIS JUST WATCH THEM COME HOME AND TAKE THE BACK OF THE LOFT OFF.

    ITS A BOY

well here he is little baby ben about 5 mins old
  9. another to look for silverwings is Kris Van massenhoven who`s base stock is from Van Der Veken and takes all his advice from Jos, also look out for Willy Jacobs and Willy Van Herk very small team fliers but with outstsnding results year in year out against serious competition and well known fanciers. I must admit i am slightly biased to the Van Der Veken birds as i have just taken a delivery of some youngsters from his best birds. Also a name that was famous for middle distance racing was Karel Meuleman(hope i spelt it correctly) is now racing at the distance with some very good results.
  10. look out for a fancier called Jos Van Der Veken he has been one of the top consistent fliers in the super competitive Zuiderkempen region.

    Feeding ybs

i would be careful with youngsters who are on the darkness system as they will need a little more feeding and care as they are still growing and going through a full body moult. like jimmy said i also like youngsters to have a full crop for settling down at night, but when training them to trap the late ones get nothing only a pink clip ring and i find they are not late more than once. when training starts ie.. tossing i will change from v.l. junior extra to gerry plus and then control the % of protien building up to a race day.

    Any Libs??

the glasgow ferderation had a liberation from cockenzie at 11.30 am today into a freshening light south west wind and we had a good race with excellent returns.
  13. Forthview you are correct about the state of the shu just look who they had represent them at confederation meetings and this will explain the whole root of thier problems. join the shu are you having a laugh or what.
  14. I think you have hit the nail on the head there forthview. clockman put the toys back in the pram and just ignore the ets debate as you have done a lot of work on here with auctions and fund raising for rachel etc and it would be a shame to turn your back on it. You dont want to become a walker and join us on the dark side, the english fanciers are just starting to get into this but we have been over it already and as we all know regardless of how it was introduced it is here and it is here to stay. Progress or not it is in use and good luck to those who use it. There will be turmoil before it is introduced in England but just as they watched us all fighting amongst ourselves when it came in here lets just sit back and let the battle commence, because now it is their turn and they must be allowed to have their say just as we were.

    RPRA

agree with the posts regarding peter bryant and i think he has surpassed himself in his efforts to defend our birds and to protect our sport. we recently had a info pack arrive at our club premises on how to organise racing and trainning tosses and the rules governing the application and gaining of a license. dont know if the shu have produced any info or help packs for their members but at £4.50 per membership the rpra have excelled in our hour of need but what are shu members getting for their fees. seems the ostirich syndrome has been adopted again.
  16. what i would like for valentines day is for the price of flowers not to have quadrupled..........................................!
  17. It is a crazy sport when you think it costs less than a first class stamp to send a bird to a race point. Fanciers will pay crazy money for birds but wont pay an extra couple of pence for birdage fees to get them safely to the races. the idea of a press offier/ sport promotion/ or PR person is a good idea. the sport needs every help it can get, but tv is where the audience is and that is where we should explore. look at how the greyhound racing has flourished after sky started getting involved, and the two sports are very alike in the aspect of owning, training, breeding etc. The advantage is that they can have the gambling side but how can we. Hyacinth had a post on the site earlier where established members would sponsor a new start and give help with getting started and breed some youngsters etc, this could work here too as long as we can capture an audience and prove how rewarding our sport is.
