I USE GEM G10 PELLETS AND FIND THEY ARE EXCELLENT DURING BREEDING AND REARING OF YOUNG BIRDS. THE YOUNG BIRDS SEEM TO BE BIGGER AND HEALTHIER THAN BEFORE I STARTED USING THEM. I HAVE ALSO USED RED MILLS PELLETS AND THESE WERE GOOD TOO. THEY AINT CHEEP BUT IF YOU ONLY GIVE ABOUT 10% TO THE FEED THEY LAST A WHILE.

use a ultrasonic device that runs on batteries it cost about £30.00 from b&q. it took about 2 days for it to take effect but i have very few problems now. my loft is about 30 yards from the homes of two cats andthey dont seem to bother as much now.. :

By my experience of going to clearence sales i have been quite supprised at how many birds have been in some of these sales. For instance one sale i went to the guy was a great flyer but only raced a team of about 20 birds and yet in the sale there was about 80 lots. So finding one or two good breaders from this amount of birds must be pretty difficult if not pot luck. From this sale i purchased 2 birds and have bred 3 club winners from them however the two i purchased were among the cheepest in the auction. I wonder if the realy expensive birds ever bred anything good. I suppose the other point is has the seller kept his best back for friends and relatives. I know of one guy who set his son up in the sport before selling up. Perhaps this happens on occasion.

I belive that if in doubt send a sample off to be tested and then you only need to treat if needed. I sent a sample and a swab off 2 days after the first young bird race and it came back positive for yeast infection. I only did this as on arrival back from the race the birds did not look right . Watch them carfully and they usually show you when something is wrong.

Hi folks im michael i have been racing pigeons on and off for 24 yrs since i was 14. i fly in the West Durham Fed and have also flown in the durham combine. my high points in the sport was topping the durham combine 2 years ago. my low point has been this year due to major health problems to my young birds. i am not too good with a pc at the moment so it takes a while for me to type however my daughter is teaching me and im getting better. i am also secretary for Leeholme H S The job nobody wants. ;D ;D :P
