    Returns

We got 24/24 flying in one of the clubs flying 135 Miles 21/25 from the other flying 119 Miles the four that are missing are birds on their first race of the season - they are hens
  2. It is good that you vaccinated the birds fro Paramyxo, but sadly that won't stop them from getting it................... If you can get them test do - they aren't as expensive as you think......... People are correct in so far as antibiotics won't clear a virus, but what a broad spectrum antibiotic will do is stop any secondary infections developing, which often occurs when the birds immunity is compromised. Basically your problem could be anything, paramyxo, paratyphoid, aedno virus, Circo virus etc etc. I hope you get it sorted mate, it is always a stressful time when the birds are ill.
  3. Excellent breeding Spencer and cracking younster - some fancier is going to get lucky and so is the charity. Well done mate.
  4. Spencer, I agree that novices and young fanciers look at these posts - BUT, it is not only on this site where things are said - I bet every club in the country has some sort of bickering going on, people need to be aware of how it really is, not just the 'dream' that everything is 'heaven' when it isn't At the end of the day who else causes the problems for us ? At the end of the day, most of the agruements that go on are due to jeolousy and nothing else, how many times do you hear about a fancier not winning anything being bad mouthed, very rarely, most of the time people are whinging about people who win.... Certain 'fanciers' don't help us in the public eye anyway, they just make us look worse than we are. I would love a world where we can cut out the 'politics' and just get on with what we all love and that is just racing our bllody pigeons..................
  5. Thanks for the reply shadow, when you say ration the intake, how much would you feed per pigeon per day?
  6. Just wondering what people do with their stocks birds when they have finished breeding from them in a season. Do you split them ? and when do you split them? What do you feed them? How do you stop them from getting too fat? We have parted ours at various times, last year it was at the end of July, and for my liking I don't think I made the right decision, we didn't have the best of breeding seasons at the start of this year as the birds weren't in as good a condition as i would have liked, alot (especially the hens) were carrying too much excessive weight. When we part the birds we feed a moulting mix, then move them onto a 50/50 diet depurative mix, until pairing - but the birds still are fat................ What would / do you do?
  7. How true Stuart, a very succesful pigeon flier in Sheffield once said to me 'pigeon racing wold be fantastic, if only it didn't have fanciers!!!!!
  8. Cracking looking young birds. A real bargain for someone out there
  9. Agree with Gangster, get the birds tested However, if the birds are ok in general, could be that they have gorged themselves on grit or minerals, or something they have picked up in the garden.
  10. We sometimes let the widowhood cocks out fior exercise on basketting morning, when they are 'right' though we keep them in, because they are that wound up we would never get them in if we let them out. We never have the young birds or widowhood hens out on a Friday.
  11. Lovely youngsters - someone definately got a bargain there - especially at that price.........
  12. Totally agree with your post Mick - our cocks have had 6 tosses at no more that 12 Miles, they are exercising well and just needed to remove cobwebs after the winter - after first race the sprinters won't train again, but we will try and get a few 'distance' chucks into the water birds.
  13. I WOULD LIKE TO BID £100.

    redband

We usually use a condition seed, such as Bamfords or Bucktons, everyday and give Hormoform once or twice a week maximum when the youngsters are in the moult.
  15. Well done Paulo - great start to the season
  16. Good to see him looking much better - I think he is well on his way to a full recovery now David - Well done again mate
  17. Good to hear that your pigeon is making a recovery, you should be proud of yourself for what you have done for the fellow Any chance of posting another photo up of him to see what he is looking like now.
  18. We had our widowhood cocks in the basket yesterday for the first time (first day I would say suitable to train). Went 14 Miles with them - took them 15 minutes in a west wind :) When I let them go, they never even turned, just headed staright for home. Won't need too many more before first race the way they are looking - exercising well at home also, so why spoil things
  19. From the photograph, I think he is starting to look 'brighter' certainly much better than the other day. Keep up the good work, I think he will be fine with the care that you are giving him. We had a young bird last year that we lost at the first race - he was reported about 4 days after the race about 6-7 miles from our loft at a haulage company, when I collected him, I didn't think he would last the night, he was that run down and dehydrated, we had to literally feed him and put water down his throat he was that bad - after a week of doing this he slowly started to come round - after starting to fend for himself he very quickly started to pick up - after a few weeks he was exercising again and we even managed to get him to a race of about 100 miles at the end of the season - he had a lovely moult and has shown no bad effects since - I am sure he will pay us back ine day Just out of interest, how are the pigeon's droppings looking now?
  20. ;D ;D ;D Cracking gesture Stuart, if only there were more like you in this wonderful sport of ours. It is also wonderful to see people taking a genuine interest in this story, it just goes to show we do care about birds, veven if they do get lost
  21. Hey up mate, I live in Chesterfield, what's the full address they have given. I would be happy to call for you. Also, I work in Bradford, so we could meet up.
  22. Here Here ??) ??)
  23. 40 for us, just weaned the last 4 today - all will be on darkness and will be split between 2 clubs, they will hopefully all race the full program and whatever comes through this will have earned a place for next year - baring disasters I would expect 25-30 to be there come the end of the season 8) 8) 8)
  24. 12th April with the Stocksbridge Fed from Kettering - 73 miles 19th April with the Central Derbyshire Fed from Windrush - 108 miles.
  25. I took some youngsters to the Mansfield depot yesterday evening, they were with the recipient early doors this morning in great good condition. Had the odd bad dealing with Amtrak, not the Mansfield depot, but other depots where birds have been sent from - but generally not bad.
