hi can anybody give me a tel no of a courier that will deliver to isle of wight from sussex? debbie

hiya thomas i had yb sickness myself earlier this year and tried adenosan first as it was highly reccomended to me my birds improved on this but it didnt seem to clear the yb sickness altogether with some still regurgitating food and some still having wet droppings i then tried y40 and nifradex together with coxedex and my birds seemed to be on the mend once again all bar some that were still regurgitating their food and still had that spongey feel to their crop i then read on pb that fennell tea does the trick ( as taylorsloft said on this thread) so tried it and now all my birds have recovered as a novice i cant honestly say weather the cure was a combination of all the treatments put together or weather it was the fennel tea that did the trick but my birds are now back to normal and flying and eating ok i put 2 fennel tea bags in a cup of warm water and left it to brew/cool down for 30 mins i then mixed that with 2 litres of drinking water for the birds i hope this helps debbie

wouldnt that be great boomerang if we could find an affordable way to track our birds after release from racepoints, i only got started with pigeons after a stray decided to make my garden shed his new home and after finding a mate for him i now have yb,s off them and also more strays and gift birds i do worry about my birds so if we could track them that would be great there is great potential for someone to make a lot of cash from this idea so hopefully it wont be too long before we can trace our birds wherabouts debbie

hi julie well done for taking care of a lost young racing pigeon i hope the owner does get back to you especially after the trouble youve gone to in tracing him as chris and pjc point out most of us do want to know where our lost pigeons are and the owner should have contacted you by now especially as you are a non fancier one lost racing pigeon was lucky enough to find david,s (invalidusername) garden when david was a non fancier and david kept and looked after that pigeon (blue boy) and bought him back to full health if non fanciers report our pigeons then the least we can do is contact the finder if the pigeon does return to you julie and you want to keep it then you can always ask the owner or if you prefer i will ask him for you anyway good luck and keep us all posted on the outcome debbie

DJ replied to catch that pigeon's topic in Introductions & Member Messages
hi welcome to pigeonbasics i got started with pigeons a couple of years ago when a stray racer decided that my garden shed (then full of paint tins, garden tools, etc) was to be his new home i was later given another stray by a neighbour and the two of them are still here and paired up theyve also bred me some youngsters and ive since been given more racers (and more strays) so my shed is now full of pigeons not tools but i wouldnt have it any other way good luck debbie -
i think u were right robbie to threaten the owner with the rpra especially after he asked u to move it on and obviously didnt want to send for it i also picked up a stray in town a while back as the weather over that weekend had been windy with some rain and the bird looked totally flown out when i spoke to the owner it turned out that it was the first time the bird had gone amiss and apparently the race birds had hit some bad weather crossing the channel he and his wife were more than pleased to send for it debbie
-
hi chris i know how u feel ive heard all the excuses myself and been told : i dont keep them anymore, or its a really well bred bird, or he,s on holiday, or i cant afford to send for it so can u feed it and chuck it up for me i could go on but i wont i know not all fanciers are the same and i have to say that some do send for their birds and even drive miles to me to collect them but they seem in the minority im always glad to have one of my birds reported and will either send for it or drive to collect it myself surely when u race u should budget to send for lost pigeons debbie

have read somewhere myself that birds dont need more salts after a race as their salt levels are already too high and only need clean water? there seems to be a lot of disagreement on this matter :-/ what do u all think? debbie

thanks everyone 4 all the replies as i said the head wound is really bad and the yb has no skin only bone showing thru on the top of his head and one of his eyes is now worse ive treated the head wound with anti-septic powder but its not looking too good the yb has gone very quite and isnt moving much unless touched but i will perservere 4 now and hope for the best the yearling cock bird that scalped the yb had blood on his beak and wattles so he really did a number on the poor yb hes been put in a crate 4 the moment its the 1st time i nearly lost my temper with one of my birds im now worried that he may get a taste 4 bullying the young, uns :-/ debbie

ive just found a yb 12 days old that has been pecked so badly that its skull is showing through the top of its head its back is also red raw where its been pecked, the yb seems bright enough in itself and is trying to feed is there anything i can treat the skull with to keep out infection? ive cleaned the wound with salt water and will see how the yb is over the next couple of hours? should i try and save the bird or should i reluctantly move it on debbie
-
well done martin for feeding/watering the lost young,un hes probably built up his strength enough to try and make his own way home but as peckedhen says keep your eyes open as he may well decide to return to u when hes hungry keep us all updated on any news debbie
-
well done for taking care of it mabee as freebird said it will need to go back with its own kind (when its old enough to look after itself) but carry on feeding it preferably with pigeon corn (soaked in water for about an hour before feeding) pigeons normally have another drink about 30 mins -1hr after eating so feel his crop area (his chest) and if it feels hard then try using a syringe to get some more water into him your doing a grand job keep up the good work debbie

ive used pigeon health twice to have droppings/swab tested the 1st test came back as a bacterial infection but when i asked him if he could be more specific he seemed unsure of what to say,i asked if it was ornithosis and he agreed :-/ for treatment he sent me protril powder and multi vits which i have to say did the trick as the birds were back to flying for 1hr within the week the 2nd test approx 6 months later came back showing low levels of canker and cocci i treated the canker with chevicol (i had some in cupboard) and the cocci with coxedex which pigeon health sent to me on both occasions they,ve phoned the test results through to me within 3 days of posting which i thought was good i got the impression that he was very busy and just wanted to move on to his next call and with tests at £12.50 a pop i expect he,s very busy at the end of the day i suppose you get what you pay for even though lizzy rigsby is more expensive ive heard that she,s very good and worth every penny so i will try her next time i have my birds tested debbie

well my birds have now had 2 days treatment of adenosan (harkers) and will be getting their 3rd tonight they are much improved today with droppings almost back to normal and all birds looking much better in reply to dublinflers question: adenosan contains cruziferenpulver 4640mg and immunglobuline 130,oomg if u can understand that then u are a better person then me ;D in reply to just ask me,s question: no my birds havnt been vaccinated yet as i still havnt started racing but they have all been treated for worms, cocci and canker in the last 2 months before the ybs started i also usually put garlic bulbs in their water but run out of garlic for about 5 days and this was when the ybs came to my notice so im wondering wether the garlic kept the ybs at bay? :-/ debbie
-
thank u IB,fifer, peterpau, dulin flyer, just ask, and jimmy white for the new postings i drove down to gems in chichester yesterday to buy some adenosan for the birds and they had the first dose mixed onto their corn last night the birds seemed perky enough when i checked them again about 4 pm and their droppings have definately firmed up so thats a good sign the pigeons that i hand fed with small seeds and banana mixed with adenosan have slightly improved and they now seem to be keeping their food down so fingers crossed they are on the mend i didnt expect to see any signs of improvement just yet so im well pleased:) thanks again everybody for your help and advice debbie
