  2. hi, ive got a 6 year old hen that came in as a stray last year but ive now noticed a small growth on the lower part of her beak and was wondering wether it could be anything to do with pigeon pox or another infectious disease ? the growth is only about the size of a grain of wheat and the same colour as the birds wattles but being a novice i thought that i should ask for advice (better safe then sorry) the bird is ok in itself and is eating/flying out as normal is it just growth from the wattles or should i be worried ? debbie

  7. thanx roland, kev, jimmy, lennut tar and carlsberg for your replies/tips while im picking your brains can anybody explain why you shouldnt train in a east wind? i know im only a novice and there,s probably a good reason but im thinking that surely a wind from any direction can blow a pigeon off course? why is a east wind any different? do pigeons not get liberated on race days in east winds? i know these are probably stupid questions to all you old hands but i cant fathom this east wind thing? who,s gonna educate me? debbie

  16. hi everyone well i managed to get some amoxicillin and all my birds were treated with it for 5 days as recommended after treatment all the birds looked fine and i thought that the amoxicillin had worked its magic but ive now got a couple of birds going down again with the same symptoms (one eye partly closed, dirty wattles, not eating) ive left a message on an avian vets ansafone as im now stumped and obviously need some advice/meds from an expert i will be glad to see the back of this month as not only did my pigeons get sick but my old pc packed up and now my car is making strange noises ?? still i cant complain as im sure it could have been a lot worse thanks again for all the replies to my posting and also for the pm,s bye for now debbie
  17. thanx all for your replies/pm,s i will make some calls and let u know how i get on? my birds have greatly improved after being treated with amoxicillin but i need to buy some more to finish the course, my worse affected birds had weeping eyes(one side only)dirty wattles, and were sneezing/croaking i only had some amoxicillin so i tried that and they have greatly improved so staying with amoxicllin seems the thing to do thanks again debbie

  22. pigeon health are sending me out a testing kit today so within the next couple of days i will know for sure what the problem is ive been given some 250mg amoxicillin capsules which according to some websites can be used to treat ornithosis if given in doses of 25-50mg per day for each pigeon im very tempted to try and break down two of the 250mg capsule into 50mg doses and treat my worse affected birds until i can get the results of my droppings/swab test done? what do u think? debbie :-/
  23. thank u alf, bruno, dogeon, jimmy w (no i dont mind ) inv spirit, shadow and swilcox for replying to my post and advising me, im going for the droppings/throat swab test with pigeon health so hopefully i should soon know what the problem is with my pigeons before treating them thanks again guys u are all stars debbie
  24. i had some problems last month (watery eyes/snuffles) with my pigeons but it cleared up or so i thought but now its back along with sneezing, grey wattles and a rattling sound? about ten of my pigeons are affected to various degrees but ive also noticed over the last week or so that some dont want to go out for excercise ? their symptoms seem to match ornithosis but rather then just treat for it i would be grateful if anyone can tell me how to have them tested for it just so i can be be sure that i am treating for the right thing? last month i treated my pigeons with chevicet -t for the watery eyes/snuffles which seemed to work up until now? any advice would be appreciated debbie :-/
