  1. i took 10 pigeons training and 8 returned as i got home but the other 2 took 4 days to get back to the loft and both were in a sorry state (ive been here before :-/) anyway ive noticed that the 2 latecomers have what can best be described as a black mark on the front of their wattles just where the wattle joins the beak ?? being a a novice who has yet to race can anybody give me a clue as to what caused the black marks on their wattles or am i dealing with a disease that caused the 2 pigeons to be late home?? debbie

  9. hi all im glad to say that my pigeon that took 12 days to get home from 5 miles is now much better and is eating as normal today but i very much doubt that he will go on to be a top distance pigeon as he would probabley pass away from old age before he managed to get home ;D ;D but im glad he,s on the mend now debbie

  14. hi all, its me again as you,ve all been so helpfull with my postings (where did i go wrong?) i thought that i would let everybody know that ive had another pigeon come home today from that disastrous 5ml training run on 2 may, he,s lost a lot of weight and doesnt seem to want to eat much and just sits hunched up ? hes had some glucose and multivits in his drinking water so should i now just leave him to rest and recover or is there anything else that i should be doing to help him? i dont know what he,s been doing for 12 days-if only they could talk? anyway if anybody could advise me about what to do with him it would be much appreciated debbie :-/ :-/
  15. thanks for all the replies, as the strays seem to have settled i think i will keep them and take them with my others on their next 10 mile training run-how long should it take them to home from 10 miles? im feeding them on 1 and half ounces each of versele lage best all round mix daily after excercise so hopefully im not overfeeding them? they also get pink or black minerals and pigeon grit daily debbie
  16. hi all,as you were all so helpfull with help/advice on my disasterous 5ml training i thought id let you know that ive had one more yb return from training which makes 6 out of ten back now, the 6 have now gone on to 10 miles and were all home within 2 hours(i bet that sounds really slow to all you old hands) but ive also now got another 2 strays that refuse to leave-the owners have offered to transfer them over to my name but would they ever be any good to me if i started racing? should i keep my pigeons at 10 miles or should i increase the distance? basically i just want to know what pigeons of mine would be any good for racing and what distance to take them ? debbie
  17. ask around your neighborhood billybob theres bound to be fanciers (people who keep pigeons in your area who would be happy to help you and give you advice) pm me if you need any help debbie
  18. 11.15am today and my 5 pigeons are still missing, the 5 missing were all 06 birds and havnt had any racing or training before, the weather was sunny but a bit windy but as it was only 5 miles i didnt worry, they havnt gone back to their old loft so all i can do is hope they come back, 4 of the 5 that came home were originally strays so at least theyve had the experience of racing in the past, debbie
  19. i took my pigeons down to horsham (only 5 miles)this morning as i thought theyd enjoy the fly and it took 5 an hour and half to get home and 5 are still missing 4 of the 5 that came home were originally strays but all the missing ones were given to me by a friend (they havnt gone back to old loft) i cant understand how they can get lost from 5 miles but then i am only a novice any theories anyone as its all a bit of a mystery to me? debbie :'(
  20. thanx 4 the replies guys i dont know how u manage as pigeons seem to suffer with all sorts of illnesses will this be an ongoing thing 4 me treating my pigeons for this, that or the other ? debbie

  23. hi my pigeons have been treated for canker and coccidiosis and i am looking for a product that i can use to treat my pigeons for worms, i read somewhere that there is something you can buy that kills all worms and lice on pigeons but cant remember the name of it? can any fanciers help a newbie with advice? i would like something that i can add to the water if possible but dont mind using tablets or sprays if i have to? the most important thing is making sure that i give my pigeons the best treatment thanks in advance debbie

invincible-thanx for explaining about the grit/mineral thing and how it can affect the chevicol treatment also thanx to sammy for replying to my post-i was told to give the treatment as one of my pigeons was suffering from canker and i was advised to treat all of my pigeons at the same time (all 4 that is ;D ;D) i was just concerned about keeping my pigeons locked in for 5 days when the babies had just got used to flying in and out of my shed thanx again for all the advice debbie
