i wouldnt personaly go out and kill magpies as im a bird lover , but farmers see them as vermin also crows tend to peck the eyes out of new born baby lambs at lambing time , hence farmers used to shoot the crows and pin them to the fence they have a lively hood with chicks from chickens ectra to protect havent they ? same as the fox lovely to see but they make a mess if they get in a chicken shed , and its usualy older less fit foxes that do this because they cant catch the natural prey like rabbits as they get older.

i only take one round of youngbirds if for any reason i end up with any been single reared as i bred early i will take a further round from the single reared pairs , i have moved house a year ago so 1st year at new location flying ybs , as i fly distance pigeons the ofspring can take up to 3 years to determine if the pairing is right , but i repair all stock birds up differently each year ,at end of the yb season i make a list of what survived and the parents that have failed to produce any ybs that are in the loft are marked with a marker ring and if same results year after they are promptly removed , i have talked to a well known stocksman and local breeder he says you need to take 3 rounds off a pair to determine there true value , but due to space im happy to do via my method , i am going to breed later next season for my round as i prefer younger young birds to earlier bred ybs so the less chance of any single reared young birds. As for results i aim to put a good perfomance at the longest yb race, but alas not long enough to prove my birds , the midlands national race this time round is the same week as my longest young bird race , so i wont be sending this year and as at new address this season i need as many young birds to finish the race programme to race as yearlings next season , as yearlings id expect them to win up to 400 miles with the odd one or two to go to 512 miles but id only send to the last race if chasing the channel adverages which i have won on a few occasions

I usualy buy odd bird from our fed sales or breeder buyers from clubs in town for a bit of fun and intrest , i buy stock pigeons in mainly hens have bought quite a few in , in last 2 years some been tried this year and some fresh for next year , im at nice levels in my stock loft with a view to reduce after there perfomace is determined , most of my stock are bred from winners or lines of winners or winners in there own right.

well i agree with most reasons for the huge losses , new methods birds been better feathered due to darkness or the light systems , and the search for the fastest pigeons high velocitys only happen when the birds have got the wind up there *expletive removed* , when such pigeons have a no wind or head wind conditions to contend with and suffer bad losses its these super fast wind machines that suffer the most due to the nature of breeding for pure high speed , if the focus was the same as it were 50 year ago and wanting to breed a family of birds to compete at all levels up to the longest races 500+ miles we would have both fast and reliable pigeons that fly in any conditions. But we all know with a modern lifestyle it's the sprinters that are getting the huge sale prices and win over a short distance , as we fly more shorter races than long ones and the price gets higher the further miles you go this also discourages distance races where money is short .What should be happening is a one bird price across the board from shortest race to longest race then the glory would suit the working mans pocket.
