Sick Birds help please
OLDYELLOW replied to Speckled Jim's topic in Help - What's wrong with my bird?
what colour spots are in throat ? yellow cheesey spots indicate canker , but the gases from the pool could be poisoning the birds , perhaps wind change is reason for getting better then ill again , i would get a blood sample to see if been poisioned , a tempary measure would be to use Black minerals ( charpos ) and clay mineral blocks to help the systems of the birds detoxify perhaps this loft will need moving into a better position. -
welcome back David

i havent completely gone down that road but i shy away from medication unless my birds need it and have been prescribed it by a vet , i put a post up earlier on the products i mixed together to achieve no counts of worms , cocci and canker its working for me , weak pigeons i kill there the gateway to disease outbreaks in anyones loft well for many years i have had counts for canker and cocci then when i had worms, worms was the first i irradicated , first i wormed chemicaly then used mollasses also know as treacle to keep at bay using 2 tablespoons once a week diluted in hot water so was liquid this had worked so left me with the cocci and canker . I used to clean out everyday twice a day but the cocci and canker was always there in low counts majority of the time below treatable levels , i also got respirity disease so obviously changed loft treated all sorted won for 2 years on the trot highest prize winner. All this time cleaning and biancoing the floors and boxes on a daily bases . Since going to Turkey for a holliday this year i was going for a fortnight and had to let my friend look after the birds i put hempcore in the loft , and as i advocate a clean loft i was going to remove this when got back but the condition of the birds made me replace it , the conclusion i come to on seeing the vet was this the birds feet were rougher tougher and harder than that of a bird in a loft without bedding so there feet was less absorbant to the cocci as a result , but by no means the sole reason for not having Cocci . I have used Orego stim a product i bought to tighten the droppings up so as this doesnt do this greatly i dismissed this product . On tidying loft up prior to making my widowhood boxes i had a few products left all of which treat these disease/ symptoms , i took a full jar of mollases added this to a 5 litre bottle watered down left for 24hrs then i added half a bottle of cider vinegar ( canker treatment ) the near full bottle of Orego stim ( i had used twice with no great effect ) then topped this up with Aviform Ultimate andd added water shook up , i used 20mls of this to a 8 pint drinker 3 days on and 3 days off but im sure 3 days a week be enough so it works out very cheap to keep everything down , im going to experiment and use the naturline instead of the orego stim as i think will do a better job and is much cheaper , then ill get tested at vets before racing starts hope this helps to get your birds 100% as it has mine , but its a combination of alot of things that i have done and most by accident with great effects , all the best mark

yup mine on doors also then just put a dowel door on inside so can open it up in the hotter days of the summer i'd just block them tops up with perspex if you arent going to use them Josh then can also keep them out of sputnik when its damp and wet -
well for many years i have had counts for canker and cocci then when i had worms, worms was the first i irradicated , first i wormed chemicaly then used mollasses also know as treacle to keep at bay using 2 tablespoons once a week diluted in hot water so was liquid this had worked so left me with the cocci and canker . better to take a photo Josh im sure there the 50s 60s style of trapping , it reminds me must dig my old loft photos out early 70's -
the lows in pigeons make the highs even greater , well done you managed to settle this one you might get the rest settled now

northern hygene are defra approved and specialise in avain diseases if its good enough for the goverment its good enough for me they do tests on all animals and birds , and are a valuable source to talk to as they actualy know what there talking about , all there swab tests come with a soup solution to keep the bacteria in so doesnt deteriate as a result of bacteria dying in transit each test costs £5 so full test is £30 and i think is value for money i know i could spend that on unneeded medicines my birds dont need and do the immune system no good
-
mine includes canida and mycroplasma thats where the real bacteria lie
-
Forgot to add full tests are £30 and can be sent out in the post

Have a good day Chris , all the best
