    Feeding for Racing

one year i fed tic beans up to 230 miles it was then i changed the feed as i feared they wouldnt have enough in reserve , i have flown up to 512 mile on versa laga superwidowhood and won i suppose if fed just beans as no variety there less likely to gorge and eat just what they need
  2. durring cold months i put it in water i just mix very well then no big clots on bottom of drinker when it warm easier to put on corn have to agree with Tony c periods of stress and after antibiotics great for the calcium content whilst feeding ybs
  3. looks like you'l have to get some security shutters on the portacabin but i guess they'll just burn it down , very sad that people feel the need to do these mindless acts

there are several types of maize don't give much feeding value in difference with the main differences being mostly in outlook and the vitamin percentages. Maize contains many digestible carbohydrates, little raw cellulose and an awful lot of fat.

well if birds are basket trainned as ybs they'll fair better than those that aint and those that travel better and eat and drink well will be in the running if there ability is up to it in my view you have 3 types of feed , 1st is protein which aids growth and repair , 2nd is instant energy , 3rd is stored energy such as fats , like any engine a bird has its requirements and needs to be fueled according to how many miles it would be doing , you could take the various fuels for car racing into consideration , rocket fuel for a very fast funny car a short load of fuel for a quick journey at high speed , and a formula one car loaded with fuel to cover a course but with a big difference , not a very great comparison but i hope you get my gist

well on the longer races birds will have been fed by the convoyer , but fats would have been built up before they went and as stored do come into effect , as for running around the block i'd rather take the car ;D ;D ;D ;D
  14. RIP sammy god bless
  15. you could look at it from the birds point of view , better not to be handled when returned to be clock shy next race
  16. well im sure it wont be the biggest club surely some of the so called national clubs will have more members
  17. think about the over treated birds with a severerly compromised immune system , this poor bird wont have the constitution to face the stresses of training and the race basket and if looked after in a proper way from the offset the stress of racing wouldnt be too much for it , i think you would be right to be upset that our birds immune system would be stronger and more vigiourous to not be as easily supceptable to infections because of there remarkable constitution , unlike a bird propped up with medicines doing more harm than could see a basket come back ill and much easier to blame everyone elses birds than look at how there birds got so weak , a wild bird that gets ill doesnt see a vet it dies its natures way
  18. they removed the mollases based from the Aviform ultimate but i mix my own and add the mollases back to it , however was brought to my attension a few days ago that Taylors Choice sell it now as black majic , however Aviform are buy one get one free so still cheaper to mix your own IMO
  19. look through ring lists for clubs in your area http://www.rpra.org/Portals/1/RPRA%20Ring%20List%202008.pdf
  20. used Bayril once for respiritry disease changed loft never used anything since
  21. ill enquire at next test before racing
  22. the gel they call kit a soup solution so the bacterias dont die off
  23. when i have watched swabs previously i hold the bird then vet opens the beak keeps it apart then tilts the head back so the squab reaches into the gullet then this is transfered by scratching a petry dish with a gell where the bacterias / canida can grow , thats my understanding anyway
  24. its sad to hear of anyone culling there birds , did your dad have any imports in with these birds or were they all home bred ?
  25. im sure my vet tests for everything as i ask and there defra approved and my birds are well looked after cant get any better than a goverment vet that specalises in avian , i may have to watch a bit closer next time i get the birds tested and will ask her
