Trial and error nobody can say for sure but if you look at the pedigrees of some of the top racers on pipa for example the pigeon that's at 272.000 euros at the moment has four generations of unrelated pigeons in its pedigree that I can see.

A lot of far more clever men than me have studied Mendel's theory of hereditary, but no one has came up with a formula for breeding champion racers or breeders of champion racers based on the theory.

The old adage is best to best, I think for sprint to middle distance you have a better chance of them breeding direct winners, but for the 500 plus races then they probably won't breed winners, but when you do breed a winner you will probably look back and find the best to best pair in the pedigree.

But many roads lead to Rome.

Nary a one unless breeding as STOCK BIRDS. Then an out cross every time for racing.
