REDCHEQHEN Posted December 12, 2016 Report Posted December 12, 2016 Young Bird Sickness Causes and Clinical Signs: As its name implies this condition affects young birds and if severe can be fatal. Although affected birds show generally similar signs of holding corn in their crop, depression and scour, the disease can be due to a variety of viruses and bacteria and not all are necessarily present in an outbreak of disease. Viruses that have been isolated from affected birds include Circovirus, Adenovirus and Herpesvirus and bacteria that have been isolated include Salmonella and certain strains of E.coli. Treatment: Treatment of Young Bird Sickness is based on controlling the bacteria with antibiotics and supporting the birds with re-hydration products, tonics and vitamins as they fight the viral infections. http://www.sandhillvet.co.uk/html/pigeon_service_management_diseases.html

Treatment: Treatment of Young Bird Sickness is based on controlling the bacteria with antibiotics and supporting the birds with re-hydration products, tonics and vitamins as they fight the viral infections. http://www.sandhillvet.co.uk/html/pigeon_service_management_diseases.html Young birds, like young animals, are susceptible to illness. Our own children go through a vaccination process into their teens to protect them from known problems. In my opinion, the reason that the causes and clinical signs are so varied is because when racing our YB's they are all mixing together and cross-infecting each other. Our prevention is null and void because it is not being carried out properly. How many of you know of someone who doesn't keep their vaccine refrigerated? What about those who retain the leftover vaccine for future use? Some use out of date vaccine and some do not vaccinate at all. Some prop up with routine use of antibiotics. In my opinion, the natural resilience to fight illness is not in some pigeons and they are therefore unable to pass it on to their YB's. Undoubtedly the stress from constant BOP attack does us no favours, but if the natural resilience is not there, then we are on a loser from the start. I have my views on the procedure to progress and to reverse this trend, but it will never happen because pigeon fanciers cannot agree on the colour of sh1t.
REDCHEQHEN Posted December 12, 2016 Report Posted December 12, 2016 You need to vaccinate your pigeons collectively. Your club being responsible for ordering the vaccineSomeone who is responsible for storing the vaccine and vaccinating the birds - arranging the timetable to vaccinate all members birdsThe secretary or treasurer issues the invoices to charge the member for the vaccine used Simples - no waste (or less waste) Club buys in bulk - cheaper for the members overall

REDCHEQHEN Posted December 12, 2016 Report Posted December 12, 2016 There is only one mandatory vaccine - for PMV that was in reply to kyleakin lofts post re out of date etc vaccine

I dare say it could be attempted to pass a Bye Law, but it would be far better if it came from the NGB as a requirement to comply with the Constitution. I very much doubt this would happen unless it was a government directive.Even if this was achieved, it would still require to be enforced at Club level and, again, I very much doubt that this would happen. My views are arrived at through my very short time of associating with pigeon fanciers.Let me reiterate, they are unable to agree on the colour of sh1t.
