It really depends, if one of them is your base family and one is a new introduction its a risk. When i introduce a new family i will intend to bring in a pair, or two-three pairs, and they must win without being brought into the base. Theyll get two years to do this, if they do not beat my base pigeons they will never be crossed. As the idea is that whatever i bring in must be better or equally as good as the base. Last year i bought in the sticker donckers and they proved to me on a number of occasions when they came with the base birds to win, they was so good out of the 4 bred from them , 3 of them scored multiple times in club and fed. So this season they will be crossed into my base.

But i swear by crossing good birds, the closer to the tree(champion) of both strains the better

Aye....and we have had this conversation before.......a distance team can show nothing in two years. I keep my elders together but constantly cross between the three families i keep for sprint/middle. I am currently crossing my kirkpatricks as they have fallen back and think some new blood might pep up their performances......I have ended up with the majority of the distance team being thru the same lines.

Your possibly right dal...but i keep no distance families here so i couldnt say but i expect them to race to 510 miles. However if i did i would want them scoring in the races they was bred for by the time their babies are two years old as in my opinion a 2 year old is in the prime of their lifes.
