blucock Posted June 29, 2015 Report Posted June 29, 2015 Taking some points from another site - is the SNFC all over this in the planning for Ypres - shame we can't get a Friday lib avoid worst of the heat (though bearing in mind they race in alot of countries at these temps) At 35 degrees, some of the issues involved (including those mentioned): Conditions/environment/time in the basket (stress, dehydration), ambient temps., amount of UV radiation, time on the wing, chance of a holdover. Transporter creating a hot house, no ability to control interior conditions? Is the driver reliable, will he provide water? The bird generates heat when flying, add to that the combination of high ambient temperatures and High UV radiation and the birds are limited in how long they can stay in the air. If birds are already dehydrated upon release... Thoughts?

Thoughts? Can only comment on the Rennes gold cup race of 1976 Won by the late Joe Murray of Ecclefechan Heatwave no wind birds tumbled into all sections South East and west taking first three in open my birds landed as if they had just flown 10 miles as fresh as paint On a plus side nowadays Falcons hate hunting in extreme heat off the day if possible lying sunning themselves instead
