VAGIN Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 I was listening to the news on tv yesterday . Some worker on the rig found a racing pigeon on the rig .He the contacted his girlfriend who just happen to work for the SPCA . The bird was then put on a chopper and flown to Aberdeen ,where it was picked up by the SPCA And the was driven all the way down to there holding centre in BristolNobody could tell you its ring number Nobody contacted any of the unions for information on this bird What a useless waste of money Worse still if it a Scottish bird it will cost a few quid to get it back When it could have been dropped off at a Aberdeen loft Im sure the boys would have made sure it got home safely This was all a big publicity stunt to show Thats all it was ( AHHHH say no more)
philg50 Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Aye thats what i thought as well nae word of the doos ring number to see if any one knew the where abouts of the owner.
john cumming Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 im surprised they even took the bird on the chopper. i keep and race doos and work offshore. have for 26 years. and the helicopter companies are sometimes funny about taking in racing pigeons!! god knows why. but if its a hawk. owl. even gannets n gulls. smaller migrating birds not a problem. ive asked the question why. and its because its a and i quote from a pilot" its a live animal" obviously other birds are not live. ive had that response from quite a few pilots over the years. i resorted to sending pigeons in on the standby & supply boats. im not saying they all refused but more times than not would not take them. john
cemetary Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 Ave never had any issue with birds going on helicopters, pilots more than happy to take them ashore.
greenbar Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 lets hope it gets claimed,it,s only 2 mins from our place,i am sure they have a fancicer, they call if they get any handed in,a ring number would help.
Blue Tooner Posted June 10, 2015 Report Posted June 10, 2015 The SSPCA Lassie dropped off an NL stray to me yesterday. It had come in off an oil rig by chopper. She has got my number as I said i would be willing to help to get the birds back to their owners.
Blue Tooner Posted June 11, 2015 Report Posted June 11, 2015 What's the full ring number I've posted it on another thread.
