ill try to explain my reasons for training on the line or near as pos is so important to me 8 maybe 10 years ago it was recognized that the bulk of the falcons were on the west or centre of the country so the club i was in at the time started an east route club and our returns did improve everyone started to train from the east most west lofts starting at carnwath and working right out to ski slopes balerno hermiston were all popular tosses within a year the fed went east also the losses were not as bad for while but i noticed that clubs like larkhall lowaters greenfield burnbank and blantyre did not get as many fed tickets as before cambuslang club the last club in our section were dominating the west section taking 8 10 and 12 tickets in our section every week taking nothing away from cambuslang club as they were a very strong club with some great flyers but i wonderd why this was happening as before we went east route the other clubs got there share of fed tickets then a fancier in my own club suddenly started winning everyweek dont get me wrong the guy was training very hard but he won 5 or 6 races in a row and was taking fed tickets so i asked him where he was training from abington he told me which was where i used to train from but the place is moving with falcons i said why train there his answer was its easier to get to and i dont have the time to train east what about the falcons i said sometimes i get hit sometimes i dont they just have to handle it then the penny dropped for me what i thought was happening his birds were fighting to hold the line they were trained on ours were breaking futher down and coming in from the back of the fed hence cambuslang taking the bulk of the fed tickets last drop our birds were coming down the the east side then coming back in from the west we could all see it happening like i said taking nothing away from cambuslang as they are a great club but we should be getting our share and we are not as soon as i started training back down the old route abington crawford elvanfoot i started winning and taking fed tickets again infact i won the youngbird ave in the lanarkshire fed that year with the best ave over all sections with one hundred and forty eight thousand birds competing and have tried to train as near as pos to the west or centre of country i also advised three other fanciers to do the same and they also started winning fed tickets i would never take my national pigeons to the east to train them i want them to fight to hold there line not show them where they should not be so this is why training the line is so important to me and its stood me in good stead so far like i said this is just my opinion but its based on what ive watched happen over the years and what i did to rectify it and it works you guys make your own mind up i can only work with what i know opinions are great but thats all they are i can only tell how it works for me and hope it works for you

walter one year i trained my young birds from largs as i was working there and when sent to lockerbie and penrith would win just same and never been in that direction ever. My sister in law raced well in midland fed and they trained there birds from kincardine bridge and stirling north east there birds still won at lockerbriggs and kelso respectivly , I think the answer is training hard out the basket and straight home no matter where libbed from . A blind folded pigeon libbed 100 miles away in any direction can make home to loft although have problen alighting but dont need shown line of flight .

ive done all that to rab but won f k all m8 your in a diff part of the country from us too what im trying to do is let my birds fight for the same breaking point over and over again like i say it works for me and thats all i can go by m8 many roads lead to rome big dell stopped sending his birds through burnbank because his birds were breaking from the west if i remember correct it was learning his birds bad habits as he needs them down the middle or eastside to win just the same as i did everyone has to do there best to help there birds win in the area they are homing to if they dont break they dont win over here simple as that jmo rab

We train here ther and everywhere anything upto 40mls an our races are all double that to begin with so does it make a great difference where we train as they have not been there before me personally birds first an stay away from where we know where the biggest population of bop .its hard now as they're everywhere but they started in the west an got bigger an bigger until they had to spread to the east but the west population didn't get any smaller jmo

its no secret the percies biggest population is in the west even the rspcb will admit to that but they are all over now but not as dence in the east due to terrain . As you say if you get descent training thats whats important i think the direction is irelevent .Jmo .

winning bird break from the batch long before theyy are in the home area , birds not leaving the drag is a different senario , i dont think dels birds and the way he races them are tuned up to break from the batches earleir in the year anyway . Diffo storie when there down the road a good bit and not flying in massive batches . A pigeon to break out of 3 .4 5 or 6000 birds needs to be fit quality and highly motivated if not it will go rounf the bus stops till it it stop on way back

Your right Rab. I sent my ybs through Burnbank as Wattie said and the first 2 races I lost 20 when everybody had nearly full returns. But both races were east winds and not perfect for the first yb races especially when they have to break .As soon as they got the wind on their nose it was a different story.

I think your spot on Walter , but I also think as long as you train from the same areas you tend to get very good tosses . Birds are out up and head for home quickly . ðŸ‘

Agree 100% Walter,as for going with the drag I think all the great birds that we all know about into Scotland were NOT followers but broke from the drag and found the shortest route from A to B,would you go from London to Glasgow via Dunbar on the train, the numpties would lol.OMHO.

Training for me from the same spot tells a story regarding your reeult for the week-end race. In the past I trained Wed & Thur from Carstairs. If the birds flew it in 40 minutes regardless of wind and weather then I knew I would be clocking the winner on the Saturday. However if they took longer ie 45 minutes then I knew they were not going to be in the frame. The moral of the story is it tells you if they are fit and in the mood for racing or flying.
