andy Burgess Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 I don't understand why it is too cold for training.feral pigeons don't hibernate or cease flying if its too cold???? thats true Jim , yet the feral,s wont be required to race a hundred miles or more each week .
raffles Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 feral pigeons are not asked to fly a possible 30-40 miles into a cold head wind. they are similarly not asked to fly several hundred miles later in the season competing against quality birds properly prepared for the job. pigeons which are forced to face cold head winds early can be irreversibly damaged for later in the season. Why take the chance of ruining them for later in the year just because of impatience.Out of curiosity the birds that compete in the christmas race how do they perform in may /June races
HOMER49 Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 Maybe your question should be 'why aren't my pigeons exercising around home' HiNO MAYBE about it, must be exercising freely beforeany basket work if not you have a problemCheersHomer 49
Michael J Burden Posted March 24, 2015 Report Posted March 24, 2015 I see no reason why not to train if you have the time and the days are sunny and not too cold, and the distance is not above 10 miles. However I am off to Tenerife this week end so nothing likely to happen here until after 4th April. MJB
Novice Posted March 25, 2015 Report Posted March 25, 2015 Out of curiosity the birds that compete in the christmas race how do they perform in may /June races I m in the wrong area to compete in this race but I read earlier that they are prepared for this race and this race only. Some days in December are better suited for training than in March. I had my first stray of the year in last night. It was a latebred with 6 nest flights and showing signs of respiratory disease. It was fed, watered, rested overnight and released this bright morning into a temperature of about minus 2 degrees.
