greenbar Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 does anyone give their birds rice, in the feeding ?
dal2 Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 Yip. Rice, hemp and linseed mix is my trapping mix.An old fancier once told me that it aids with recovery after race as the reaction between water and rice in the crop stops the bird gorging and the water held in the rice aids rehydration. Have done this for years
greenlands Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 Rice before sending them to a race.

buster151 Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 Rice before sending them to a race. I tried that last year before a couple of races, must say birds seemed better on there return for it
paddymac Posted February 23, 2015 Report Posted February 23, 2015 Rice before sending them to a race. Same here Lindsay, I feed it to the birds going to the channel, as you've already said it holds water longer so has to be beneficial to the birds in the longer races
Roland Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 Yep ... especially before the long races etc. Found it was beneficial - JMO Personally - to soak it over night. Basket mornings I would add a little lemon juice and they went / go with crops well full.

Roland Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 Rough is better Tammy. Safer and better from the supermarkets. Hulled rice mixed twice a week with normal feed all the time is great.
