What are the moderators remit .....is it all a matter of their interpretation or do they have guidance from the webmaster on what is or is not appropriate.

If there is something that is written down perhaps all members should see it ..... to be aware of what is expected and that all members-presumably- when they signed up agreed. Is there consistancy !!!! Really worrying that when a MODERATOR IE LINDA HAS HER POST REMOVED :o :o :'( :'( WHO IS DOING THIS A FELLOW MODERATOR?

Are the deleted posts agreed upon by more than one moderator?

What are the nature of the deleted posts

Are folk deleting them cos they personally dont like the content

Are they offensive i.e.swearing

The sooner we ALL know what the criterion is ...the better before we lose members

PS..I USED TO BE A MODERATOR ON A FOOTBALL SITE THAT HAS OVER 3500 MEMBERS AND WE ALL USED TO DISCUSS WITH EACH OTHER BEFORE IT WAS DECIDED TO DELETE ANYTHING UNLESS IT WAS RACIST SEXUAL OR RELIGOUS BIGOTRY.. THAT WAS THE ONLY THING THAT WAS DELETED RIGHT AWAY ;)

There is a 'code of conduct' for the net, its called netiquette.

Have a look at this link. While you read it think about some of the threads / posts that have been taken off the Boards recently.

http://www.albion.com/netiquette/corerules.html

Now here's an example of a code of conduct from a genealogy forum, altered to fit a possible future code of conduct for this Forum. Note that Richard will be working on this and he alone will publish the final version. My post is only to reply to the questions asked on this thread and provide an example of the type of conduct appropriate to an open forum of this nature, and the type of post which any of the Moderators will take action on :-

Forum Code of Conduct

This discussion forum may be used by [pigeonbasics] members to debate [pigeon related matters].

Debates on [pigeon related matters] can be held on the area set aside for discussions of this nature.

This forum has a Code of Conduct (below) and users are advised to read this carefully before posting on the forum. If you breach the 'Code of Conduct', your future postings may be reviewed by the [Webmasrter] before authorisation.

You may contact the Forum Administrator directly by e-mail. if you have any queries or require help.

Code of Conduct

Following these few 'Terms and Conditions' will we feel, enhance the enjoyment of the forum for everyone.

1. Members of the forum may not use [more than one username] as it is felt that anyone with honest intentions does not need to post under an alias. Postings under a false name will be deleted immediately.

2. Your profiles must be filled out in full with as much information as possible and must contain at least one valid email address.

3. Users should only post messages based on [appropriate pigeon-related topics].

4. Postings must not be designed to disrupt the Forum.

5. Language must be moderated at all times.

6. This forum may not be used to post messages, which are reasonably considered to be libellous or which contain personal remarks calculated to insult persons, groups or organisations, or which are deemed to be advertising.

7. Inappropriate postings should be reported to [a] Moderator.

8. The [Webmaster]  reserves the right to extend the spectrum of subjects deemed to be off-topic and not allowed.

9. Postings deemed to be inappropriate by [a] Moderator will be removed immediately.

10. All participants are expected to act and post in a gentlemanly manner and behaviour contrary to this expectation will be dealt with firmly by the Moderator.

11. The Moderator is here to help but his decisions are final and not open to discussion.

I hope this helps to clear up why action has been taken recently.

I agree, a posting policy so that everyone knows where the goal posts are. It must be explicit and short or members will sign, in agreement, without bothering to read it!  (Like those things on new software that I tick without reading!!)  Anyone who then posts, not in accordance with the policy, can expect their posts to be removed. They should have one warning and, if they continue, should themselves be removed from the forum!! IMHO ::)

I will repeat my posting.

I stated that we have to be careful of guests using this forum as I know for a given fact that animal rights activists make it their business to read these forums as "Guests" and copy and paste any information that could be used against us.

having read bruno,s posting i see nothing wrong with the rules set out

seems to me that they are only asking members to treat each other with a bit of respect which is not a bad thing

thats all right if its an equal playing field and moderators are capable of dispassionate decision making that obviously was not the case with the moderator who censored my post on the thread that was removed last night. I merely asked a forum member a question and everything within that question was a matter of fact. might have been a bit uncomfortable for the member but thats all. To make it worse the person who censorsed my post had actually (in my opinion) posted possibly the most offensive of all the posts on that particular thread. but personally i would defend his right to do so!!

This was your post:-

how many people in fife do you want banned from the Rpra then Fifestay just as a matter of interest. Or are you not bothering since you have flogged all your birds to make a few bob and moved on?

This is what you thought of your post:-

"I merely asked a forum member a question and everything within that question was a matter of fact. might have been a bit uncomfortable for the member but thats all."

So what was wrong with just asking Fifestay what would have been a very reasonable question had it not been for the closing remarks. Remarks which were unnecessary to your question, unnecessarily offensive and which could have caused a member to respond in kind?-

"how many people in fife do you want banned from the Rpra then Fifestay?"

would it not be possible to delete the part of the posting that is causing the problem to the people who control the site. this way the main content of the posting could be left. one major problem I see is the pressure put on the moderators. how many individuals do we no who have the personal strength to be unbiased. who judges the judges. difficult area. should the criteria used by moderators to censor postings not be posted. should more than one person be involved when posts are to be censored. what qualifications or experience is needed to become a censor.

Thats what I think me and Alf was saying ....for the record what ME posted I answered its gone too.For the record I responded by saying all folk need to do in the majority of cases was pay your dues, lift the debt suspension and fly with whoever you like.

All the Fanciers that stayed had to pay up for the those walkers and most did not put a letter of resignation in.The Fed and SHU only receive this information from the Clubs via the Fed so it is their former Clubs in the first instance  thats where the problems of reconcilliation lie

I dont want to see anybody particularly banned ...well at least not just for debt suspension . My point, it is very sortable. Whether those that are on the "list" will pay .... :o :o :o ego and pride :'( :'(

I also advised that this is a confed and if folk like ME are not happy they should get in touch with their RPRA rep and get representation or at least a hearing.

For the personal attack ...some people dont/cant debate an issue but do get personal... often not skilled enough to debate the issue :'( more to be pitied than got mad at 8)

OR maybe ME was hinting for a loan from proceeds to pay off debt ..if he wants to PM me,  we can sort something out ...cheaper rates than the Banks lol ;D ;D ;D ;D

i do not think having a go at anyones capabilities will encourage free and open debate. some posters  do not seem able to see what others see. there is more than one side to every debate. unfortunately it is often the case that only side is allowed into the debating forum. slipping in little sound bites which relate to other touchy situations does not advance debate either.

Johno at the end of the day there is little point in arguing cos its up to the various Union reps nothing anyone either than them can do ...no point in arguing cos we dont have a say.

BUT what is wrong in debating. I DO HAVE THE RIGHT TO REPLY NOT SLAGGING FOLKS CAPABILITIES BUT SOME CAN NOT MAKE THE DISTINCTION BETWEEN DEBATING THE ISSUE AND HAVING A POP. THIS IS AN OBSERVATION AND MY OPINION BUT I ALSO HAVE THE RIGHT AS DOES "ME" TO HIS SAY AND  SIDE. BUT IF YOUR MEANING ME WHAT SOUND BYTES OR IF YOU MEAN "ME" WHAT SOUND BYTES ARE THEY USING.
