Edinburgh west Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 What's the best way to break birds to new loft. Gonna move my young birds to my old bird loft round corner what's the best way to do this.
OLDYELLOW Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 most say train from new house garden a few times before moving them but if that close and your putting loft back up as is should be easy . When I did mine I started with a few late breds then added hens to them until had all hens settled then let them pair up to cocks and just opened them up hens went back for 3 days cocks 5-7 lost only a few
blackdog Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 keep them hungry mate and if they go back bring them right back and let them straight out again, do this for a couple of days, people make the mistake of keeping them in a couple of days before they try them again.

Gonna move my young birds to my old bird loft round corner what's the best way to do this. Put your birds in the new loft and feed them, next day let them out and they will return to the old loft, let them in but make sure they have no access to food. basket them up and put back in new loft and feed them. Do this every day for 1 week then let them out but make sure they cannot get back into your old loft and keep them locked out. They will eventually all make their way back into your new loft although it can take quite a few days up to a week but rest assured they will return and not look back.
Edinburgh west Posted October 25, 2014 Author Report Posted October 25, 2014 Am just moving my birds not the loft the loft is staying for next years young birds.
blaz Posted October 25, 2014 Report Posted October 25, 2014 would sugest much the same as peter no food or water in old loft and rattle a tin with a few stones nice and loud when birds go in to it .basket and take back to new loft.
Roland Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 ' ....would sugest much the same as peter no food or water in old loft and rattle a tin with a few stones nice and loud when birds go in to it Agree, only feed and water in new loft. Leave loft traps open so that they can go in and out and feel confident and safe in new loft. Of course they will go back to old loft, but we quickly learn where they wish to be. Only way ever a birds is broken is when they like the new loft more. Where they can feel free and safe. They will soon learn when let out of new loft where their feed will be. Would take to new loft of course for feed and allowed to fly out...
geordie1234 Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 I had a team of 40 ybs broke to my loft 3 miles away in 3 days They were doing 1 hour easy at the house.. I moved them kept them im for a week let them out they went back home every day for 3 days... I shouted them in basket and back to the new loft of the 4th day they got out in the morning and left till dark some sat on my roof all night some trapped at the new loft on the 5th day back out and left out... and that was that easy peasy and topped the section with a broke yb
