Went out to walk the dog and take in the sights at Staithes this afternoon and called into a farm on the way back (between Loftus and Staithes) where I have purchased beans before

He was selling good quality home grown maples - last years tic beans and spring barley and wheat at really good prices

Maples £8.50 for 25kg (twice dried and cleaned)

2013 harvest tic beans - £7.50 for 25kg (5 bags for £35.00)

Barley and wheat (also 25kg bags) £6.50 or 4 bags for £21

All home grown - excellent quality

Was up visiting my mum in Scotland last week and went round to visit a pigeon fancier who was telling me he had to pay £16 for a bag of tic beans and that was when he could get them.

This is the first year the farmer had grown maples - and he said they were not easy to grow as they didn't grow very tall, he hadn't harvested this years tic beans yet - as the planned harvest was thwarted by the weather - but was hoping to harvest this coming week

He also said he wanted to sell directly to the pigeon fancier (and would limit the tic beans and maples to 10 bags) as he didn't want anyone 'selling on' and increasing the price

I put this on here for anyone who might be travelling to the nearby area - the farm is a 32 mile round trip for me but I was passing by anyway

what is the difference between uncleaned wheat and cleaned apart from the obvious please

"cleaned" wheat or barley has normally been through a rolling process .this removes the shell, husk,or outer coating . :animatedpigeons:

Wheat barley = £6.00 , tics were £8.00 , Maples = £14.00 £13 fer blue peas looks like might take a trip up next time ;) Maples aren't the easiest things to grow :)
