budgie Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Lets change the topic slightly and which might help to stop the rot is the crazy resolution put up by the management committee race programme for 2009.How many pigeons do you think you are going to need to compete and the costs associated with training /feeding/sending and pooling. Its geared up for ceratin sections/prevailing west winds and we should seriously think about reducing the number of races and consider Wanstead Flats/Falaise/Rennes and Nantes (or Tours.)With dwindling membership ,not enough pigeons going around and the escalating costs we are heading for Distress and Destruction. :(
The Grass Cutter Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I am led to believe the SNRC secretary has a salary of £ 3000. I agree with Jock 3 he is on the right track to save money for the SNFC.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Very disapointed of the loss on the balance sheet especially after the subs and birdage increases last year that brought in £10,000+ yet we are still running at a £9,000 loss, drastic action is required on many expenses.

Inland races - most federations are now duplicating there pigeons with the national which is great but the downside is that if the 2 inland races are bad races then there is a big knock on effect that takes place on the channel races because all the eggs have been placed in the one baskett so to speak. Novice Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Hopefully one saving which will be on the cards for all organisations is that 2009 fuel costs should be less than 2008
JADE Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 over £5000 for race marking and clock committee expenses. i`ve marked birds and read clocks but have never asked for nor would i expect payment. somebodys raking it in!!!

Dellboy On reviewing the Secretarys Salary would you have any idea as to the hours required to fullfill and carry out these duties.I belive the salary should be based per entry which i would pitch at 1p and the final salary for 2008 would have been £13519 Gross and no expenses.Take away the Inland Races (Fed) and you would have a final salary of £5843 which is not bad for five races. and remember the role is after all only part time.
Guest stevie-b Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 its time to take the snfc in to the 21st century need more people at agm and get rid o the top table more workers needed that has the nationals intrest at heart and no there pockets

You must mean £1 and not 1 pence. I agree with you that this would be a better way to work out secretarys salary but I would go 20% less, which is 80 pence for every bird entered. This would be £10815.20
budgie Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 It is a sad day when the total birdage for our Main races (3571) Alencon/Tours and Falaise is some 260 birds less than the Inland National and with the economy on its knees it can only be worse in 2009. Time will tell.

Take care.
Delboy Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 The problem is the secretarys wages are decided at a committee meeting.I think his salary has increased by over £2000 in the last 2 years. The members dont have a say , which I totally disagree with
The Grass Cutter Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Its great to see people are starting to realise changes must be made in the SNFC. Great comments from Stevie b, Budgie, JADE, Dellboy, Jock3 and others. Budgie,s comment on the loss of £2019 for the Dinner & Presentation is relevant, when you take into consideration most people at the Dinner are collecting some type of award and they would be willing to pay the price of a ticket which should have been set to cover most of the costs. The Officials should have the numbers of award winners therefore it should not be difficult.

Delboy Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Heard there was a meeting last night. What happened, I wonder?
Guest IB Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 No apologies for stating the obvious, if you wish to make savings you first look at where the major losses are occurring, not piddlin figures like the Secy salary, which to me anyhow if you are hooked on that, looks pretty like you're following another agenda. Look no further than the channel races account. What are we doing wrong here, and how do we correct it? Spending £100,000 on geraldy transporters, like some would like, is also not the way to go, you need to down the transport costs, joint convoying with other organisations to shared race points, coupled with higher birdage charges and / or higher annual fees. Need to get real with the real cost of doing things in 21st century, and how to make available resources go further.
Jumbo Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Why not try to get convoying with the Up North Combine, would reduce traval costs and have quite high birdage
