So both my neighbours have cats. One on the left side is no drama I think the sound/smell of my dog has kept her at bay. The cat on the right side however (a Tom) is causing me a lot of drama. He is always looking into my garden and we have a shared flat/low level roof that the birds will certainly land on and the cat is often up there. I have squirted the *expletive removed* with water a few times, also bought one of those cat detterent things (give out high pitched noises) but the bugger takes no notice of it.

I am very worried about him harrassing the hell out of my YB's when they are very young. Anyone got any suggestions apart from catching him and shipping him off to no mans land? I can have my dog out in the garden 24/7 so it's not the actual floor/surface I'm worried about. It's mainly this shared roof that I am very worried about as it is the place YB's will certainly land on and flit back and forth to the loft from. :emoticon-0179-headbang:

het a water jet scarecrow, they dont like them, I have 5 cats around me. dont see them in my garden,

Ah didn't even know such devices existed till I just Googled em. So do you have the hose pipe connected and turned on 24/7? Can you adjust how far the water fires?

The feline homong instinct is very poor

Haha agreed but I would have to catch the fur ball first.

yes u can adjust how far it goes also the area it covers, you have to have it so your tap is behind it to allow you to turn it off or you get soaked, you can have it on as long as you want, I used it at night, then you new if you had a visit as the place was soaked, once they get it they dont come back, i put mine up now and again just to make sure, look for cheap ones, I got really cheap ones of the bid up on tv a while back, £14 they are 3 times that usually,

i have a cat staying a few doors up from me and it has taken at least thirty or so up till now , the thing is the birds peck around in neighbours gardens where you cant see the cat hiding a lad up the street told there was a bird in the next garden yesterday right at the cats door nothing left but two wings and the rings.

I get (and follow) your logic there 100%, that is my concern though. Being a new starter if I get my first batch of YB's(babies) out flitting about in the garden they will be vulnerable and if he is about and hassles them early it could really do me a lot of damage to a small team. If i can get them out and flying and back in etc then I won't be too worried. But the first few times out the loft when they are still unwise is a scary thought.

Jesus, 30 or so birds! I couldn't deal with that, it would literally drive me bonkers and it would be more then curiosity killing the cat. I know people say keep the birds hungry so they don't play about outside the loft more then required, but when they are "young" youngbirds it is a really scary prospect knowing that they are such east targets.

Pecking about in Neighbours gardens is nevr good thing, wat they looking for :emoticon-0138-thinking: 30 birds :emoticon-0179-headbang: :emoticon-0179-headbang: would have had that Sorted, but think you need to get YOUR birds back in your garden mate, tak it your Neighbours are

Bigpete You wont have to be thier to long 2-3 times and they be up and gone. just think about as time spent getting them into ur routine, etc just make sure that the ground is clear ???

watering cans, wheely bins, things the cats can hide behind to get in close, evil *expletive removed* but cleaver, have one myself and He,s only HERE coz keeps everything oot the gardens 3 garden raduis

that includes Dogs, was about 16 cats round me not now. And am 100% sure he would have the birds

but not happened YET.

now someone said to me they hate the smell of lemons, I cut one up and smeared all over the top of the fence etc.

Might be total coincidence, but I have not seen the cat since I have done it??

Anything worth a try mate?

Pete the prob isn't when your there or u can see the cat there it's at nite when it's all over the hut the birds can't rest and that's when your birds digest there food so u can feed all the best feeding in the world and it will go straight threw them and do no good and dogs won't make any difference the cats aren't stupid they know when the dogs are out and where and when they can't get to them only ans is cats need a holiday too
