Stu3y Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 ive read that wire mesh isnt good, and that dowels are better, is this essential? how far apart can the dowels be spaced? if doing the widowhood system.. when the hens are completely taken away from the cock, do they just have standard boxes in the hens loft with no fronts and the widowhood boxes with fronts left in the cocks loft? youngbird loft i take it just have small boxes with no fronts? hope the above makes abit of sence!
Dmurray Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 Wire mesh has it's down falls cause the birds can clamber over it and it also catches feathers so dowels would be better but not essential , with reguard to your widowhood hens a would get boxes U can lock them up in as u don't want them to pair on to each other when there away from there cocks and the young bird loft v perches is all u need nice and simply hope this helps .
andy Burgess Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 I love the widow-hood system , yet with your lack of experience I would suggest you flew natural old birds in your first year . gain some basic knowledge first

Guest Owen Posted April 11, 2014 Report Posted April 11, 2014 For people starting up the easiest way to fly pigeons successfully is on a celibate system. You don't need to pair up or show hens, just get the birds fit and send them to race. Where hens are concerned if you want to race them you will need to stop them forming lesbian relations. There are various ways to do this as you must know.I race just cocks on celibate and to be honest it is the cheapest, easiest and least complicated system I know. In the past I have flown natural and widowhood but neither of these systems are as good as celbate cocks. Besides it suits my lifestyle.
