since reading through my books i have found the answer, it was in 1912 tom paton of galston won it with a pigeon called shot wattle with a velocity of 1,432

also reading in this book this is for you national flyers

the late jimmy stokes of wishaw lanarkshire, in these pre-1914 days was sending untrained latebreds and other yearlings to rennes 530 miles with the scottish national and winning with them he was third and fifth with yearlings in 1939 twenty five years later, i visited him and saw yearlings that had flown both rennes and nantes 600 miles,

Very interesting Chad, Dale Newcombe and Joe Mullan did it as well, with great success sending lots of yearlings to the Gold cup.
