William Reid Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 they are every where i would say they are more common than the peregrine when i go my walks on any given day i see at least half a dozen they say they dont touch the racing pigeon, but the slaughter every other ground dwelling bird and animalPlenty of buzzards down here jimmy .never seen them having a go at the pigeons .but all the birds of prey are getting that much outside help think it is only a matter of time before the buzzard has too change it's killing ways
Guest chad3646 Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 jaggy told me that there is a couple of nests in the woods across from you billy
Delboy Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 They would kill pigeons but they are too slow, the pigeons get to know this and the buzzards don't bother them after a while.
joshua Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 the doos will cock a look at buzzards but there is nothing to fear of them, they feed on carrion and like other bop they are adapting their hunting methods as there are so many of them now but they are adapting to be more like crows and gulls, scavenging and walking in fields looking for insects, worms etc.some would have a go at young rabbits though but i would be very surprised if one ever took a pigeon.
Bobby4 Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 saw buzzard take baby woodpigeon chased it into trees an got it .
joshua Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 would take it that it was not fully fledged bobby4.they're not near quick or agile enough
Guest Owen Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 A couple of buzzards were trying to get a pigeon killed by a Gos away from the Gos in a field near here.
joshua Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 thats the kind of thing they would do owen,no threat to a racing pigeon.
Bobby4 Posted March 23, 2014 Report Posted March 23, 2014 would take it that it was not fully fledged bobby4.they're not near quick or agile enoughyes looked very young .still capable of catching a young bird
gulkie Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 There are 2 or 3 pair at my back door but don't bother my birds to much ( their to slow my birds mob them ) can't do any harm to any of the bops as over the back from me is a sanctuary and the eyes are every where.twitchers .
peter2010 Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I've seen them killing and attacking adult pheasants too many now fighting for food
Guest paulrstokes Posted March 24, 2014 Report Posted March 24, 2014 I think they have now overtaken the kestrel as the most common bird of prey. no harm to us, but as numbers increase and food gets more scarce who knows
