andyyy Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 Hello every, In my stock loft i have a pair of 2009 blue vandabelles who have been paired together since day one. i have around 7 sons from this pair, And one daughter and all are blue. got two from the pair already parted and they currently have a pair of ybs in the next now ready for ringing, I checked today and it looks like they are going to be pied. What are the chances that they are either throwbacks, Or something else has treded the hen, or something has laid in the wrong box... Puzzled!!

Puzzled!! check the pair and their offspring to see if they have a white toenail/s, pied doesn't always come out on the plumage.
andyyy Posted March 6, 2014 Author Report Posted March 6, 2014 check the pair and their offspring to see if they have a white toenail/s, pied doesn't always come out on the plumage. im about 85% sure they dont, they have big pink feet. atb andy
walterboswell59 Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 as far as i know white can turn up anytime andy
Kyleakin Lofts Posted March 6, 2014 Report Posted March 6, 2014 as far as i know white can turn up anytime andy Certainly with dogs and I've no reason to think pigeons would be any different, but white can appear due to environmental reasons. These include a drop in condition of the parents, lack of feeding amongst many others. You also find white appearing in very clos bred families at times. There are so many variables, but they could be correct YB's without any interference from a rogue cock.
paddymac Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 I have an old red hen down from the late Kenny Hogg barkers and she breeds the odd white no matter what colour of the cock she is paired to.
OLDYELLOW Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 white / pied is just a lack of pigmentation so can appear no mater what the matings are
just ask me Posted March 7, 2014 Report Posted March 7, 2014 ive found that close breeding can bring on more white
andyyy Posted March 11, 2014 Author Report Posted March 11, 2014 Thanks for the info people. I think there could have been a mess up with hens laying in the wrong boxes as I have a silver hen in the loft and a silver yb in the nest but its not under the silver hen
