Guest Gareth Rankin Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 Having a tidy up when i came across a loft report by John McFall on the great Willie Wilson of Larkhall, puts a smile on my face when i think back to all the visits that i made with my father to Willie and Margarets, enthusiasm was always in abundance which rubbed on to whoever visited him.
frank-123 Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 Great read Gareth Thank's Need to get Gerry to raid John's cupboard for some more golden oldies.

frank-123 Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 willie wilson of larkhall won the l.s circle gold cup three years in succession 1960 61 and 62 That takes some doing fantastic results
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Interesting to see some of Willie Wilson's foundation birds came from Wall Harrision. Was this Jocky and Jimmy Harrison's uncle? Was he also known as 'Banky' Harrison? I'm sure he used to race as W.D Harrison. I've some old results out on loan and W.D Harrison was high up a few-particularly good from Nantes. I'll put them up when I get them back
Guest chad3646 Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 i would like to add that james hamilton of hamilton lanarkshire won the l s c gold cup three times 1936 1950 and 1955 i believe that is his son who flies in south lanarkshire under hamilton and thompson
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 i would like to add that james hamilton of hamilton lanarkshire won the l s c gold cup three times 1936 1950 and 1955 i believe that is his son who flies in south lanarkshire under hamilton and thompsonYes this is correct, my father kept a record of all the Gold cup winners since it was first flown, very interesting reading.
Mossgiel Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Yes this is correct, my father kept a record of all the Gold cup winners since it was first flown, very interesting reading. Did Norman Orr, and the late Hugh Brown, win LSC gold cup 3 times each also ?
Mossgiel Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 RANKIN 5 TIMES , SAY NO MORE Exceptional
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Did Norman Orr, and the late Hugh Brown, win LSC gold cup 3 times each also ?I believe Norman may have won the gold cup 4 times, still remember Hughie Brown winning the gold cup in 1991, he beat us by 1 yard after flying the five channel races with a total 2500 miles
Guest chad3646 Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 RANKIN 5 TIMES , SAY NO MORE why say no more, has no one else to get a mention
Guest chad3646 Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 FK OFF YA OLD CANT i am just back delboy i cant say to much lol
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Some great information I've misplaced the John Swinburne article I had on Jimmy and Jean Harrison. Would I be right in saying they were another loft to have won the LSC Gold Cup three times? Possibly twice in back to back years? I can't remember exactly how it panned out but I know Jocky Harrison definitely won it once, perhaps twice?? Taking partnership changes into account I think Jimmy may have won it as part of Harrison Bros and J & J Harrison. Any info is appreciated
Mossgiel Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Yes this is correct, my father kept a record of all the Gold cup winners since it was first flown, very interesting reading. Would be interesting to post the list of winners, if possible.

Big Davie Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Did Norman Orr, and the late Hugh Brown, win LSC gold cup 3 times each also ?I could be wrong here but reckon W Wilson, H Brown, N Orr , and of course G Rankin and son have all won the LSC gold cup 5 times, sure Gareth will confirm or correct me if I'm wrong.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 I could be wrong here but reckon W Wilson, H Brown, N Orr , and of course G Rankin and son have all won the LSC gold cup 5 times, sure Gareth will confirm or correct me if I'm wrong.I had forgotten that the LSC got the history of all the trophie winners typed up. Correct regarding Willie, though Hughie and Norman won it 4 times as did the late Jimmy Hamilton of Haughead.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Mossgiel, here is the list as requested, the blank years the trophy was not won, also since the last winner in 2009 there has unfortunately been no winner. No doubt the disasters of Bourges 2010, Messac 2011, Niort 2012 have contributed to this fact. 2014 is another year, so heres hoping.

It's always been a difficult trophy to win, but seems to be getting even tougher these last few years. Good luck to everyone competing for it in 2014, and let's hope we get a winner of this prestigious trophy.
