Ronnie for the last couple of years now I'm now working full time BACKSHIFT after 25+years night shift and my results have gone Tay .*expletive removed* .but this year have put my birds on open loft .my old birds raced like $hit after always being on w/h .but all my young birds have been on open loft and had 40+ tosses but no racing .i have them on hoppers and have added extra water dishes .and hope to see the benefit next year .like everything in doos they have got to work around you . :animatedpigeons:

never had one if the birds are happy they will race to an orange box some of the worst lofts i seen had the best results the birds dont care long as its dry and they have food and water and a mate there happy imo

Would agree from the birds point of view but from a fanciers point of view a corridor and an aviary is the way to go. From a trapping point my birds all trap through the same trap from 28days old till whenever. No getting them used to the "old" bird loft or such like when you have seperate lofts.I can fill the drinkers from the corridor and view the birds without going into the ends. Having built lofts using old boxes and any old bits and pieces over the years, to finally have a pigeon and fancier friendly loft, I know which one I would rather have. Having a state of the art dooloft doesn't however gaurantee success, hard work with the correct birds coupled with a guid loft then your on the right track. AW THE BEST

I have worked in an environment where one loft with one door had a corridor leading into 6 sections and I found it to be a bit of a problem at times and for that reason I did not incorporate one into my loft as I could not see any advantage in having one. Its really a personal thing.

I think that a pigeon loft is for pigeons and a Pigeon Fanciers job is to win races with the pigeons. If that is right then a pigeon loft should be designed to get the pigeons into the best condition both mentally and physically. A 6'wide loft without a corridor will allow the pigeons to benefit from direct sun if a 3'x3' aviary is added. It will also be a good place to give the birds baths which will help them to relax and gain condition without the risk of being attacked by something that wants to eat them.

I have found corridors are good for the Human to view the birds and to move birds from one section to another but not very good to allow the birds to bath in safety. Most corridor lofts have poor ventilation and light but are usually very dry which is good. So on the balance of things the 6' wide non corridor lofts are better if you want to win races. About the worst lofts that I have seen are the ones with a corridor and those awful sputnik traps the rations the number of birds that can land together. A guy has a loft like that in our Club. I have lost count of the times I have won races because his birds don't trap very well. To be honest I would be very happy if more people I fly against had those slow trapping poorly ventilated rather dark lofts.
