Recommended Posts

does anybody know when this young bird sickness was first seen?do you think this is an infection that the birds carry or is it when its in the loft its hard to shift?this is a new thing to me but it seems its been around for a long time.also when was it first noticed in the uk our birds get paramyxovirus?

george read my post on it its a bit long winded but it was the only way to get accross what is happening ybs only reared its head about two or three years after we started vaccinating to suit our selves instead of how we were taught m8

me to peter never tried straw was allways worried about getting a mouse problem i use easy bed just now m8 but have to have drinkers high up but allways willing to try something different

Walter never at any time had a mouse problem probably due to the loft design. Straw breakes up naturaly eventualy when treading over it daily and I forked it over once a week. The wife complained for years about treking straw into the hoose now its plain crap lol.

our birds must be immune to it then we have never had it or signs off it it could be the fact we have only introduced about half a dozen birds to ours in 35 years as we never panic and buy birds in to improve our stock we have worked with our birds we have had a good stockman works with the tools he has got and gets the best out off them every loft has its own viruses thats were yas could be going wrong i cant comment anymore as i know nothing about it hope yas find a cure some day :emoticon-0138-thinking:

racing yeah they dont pick it up in the basket either we dont sell birds we give them away there only pigeons n we have had great results iv only ever sold 2 birds that i bought in from louella 2 years ago but knowing louella sold crap i sent the boy 1 out our best stock cock and promised the boy that cock would produce with any hen and it did scoring well from the bicc yb guernsey race in 50 yards visibility he sent 3 out him and scored well with 1 got the other 2 on the day so we dont give crap away either never would :emoticon-0123-party:

Can you explain how you vaccinate(old and young) rear your babies, then train and race them ..I would appreciate if you could explain the differences.

I first see this in the early 90's, introduced 6 FVW youngsters and they all went down with it.

My belief is its passed on by the parents (if the parents have had it in the past= carriers) and it comes out in youngsters when put under any stress.

I would like to add, the more clinical/sterile the loft is kept the harder y/b/s hits. My advise is to keep youngsters on some form of deep litter/bedding which helps build up their immune system.

all our birds are treated the same old and young are all vaccinated 3 weeks before there first race our old and young are on the same feed all year round we dont use breed and wean or yb mixes as there just over priced rubbish the only time there feeding changes is after there last race when we put them on 100% beans then back on to there racing mix on the 14th feb our birds are out at 1st light every day all year round in any weather if they want to go out they go if not the so be it but the ones that dont go out in all weather are noted for obvious reasons our old birds get 2 or 3 tosses before there first race and our young are started about 3 weeks before there first race i like to have them out as far as they go 2 or 3 times before there first race so there still keen and learning at the 1st race also once i see the birds hitting form i stop training and take the cages off the landig boards just for that little bit extra heat and it works we won the club yb open using this method where as every1 else was trainig almost daily sickening there birds we also dont treat sick birds there disposed off right away without hesitation we also dont allow any1 in our loft not that theres aything to hide but our loft is only 18ft and dosent have a corridor so i dont like strangers walking amongst our birds my partners also only in the loft 2 or 3 times a year now u mightaswell put a cat i ur loft than a stranger we keep it very basic and it works no fancy boxes or equipment and we fly natural with a small loft you have to be very critical off your birds if you want success im not saying other methods dont work but thats what works for us and has for 35 years but i can only take the credit for our last 5 years we also give nothing to help them moult
