I always felt it was too powdery for me Andy and the guy at Smillies in Strathaven put me onto stuff for coos it is called calf bed and is a lot less powdery than loft white and seems to be quite sandy aswell but has the menthol smell of respo san dry but it only costs £16 or thereabouts a 25kg bag the guy told me it was called calf bed but i am not sure if that is the right name for it though...

i dont think it would work out cheaper if you used your burner every day as i use my loft white every day i bought 3 small bags 3 years ago n still got 3/4 a bag left i recon ud spend more on gas in 3 years doing it every day although burning out might be more sterile it dosent look as good as a whitened loft lol

I use it all the time, just sprinkle it on the floor and use a soft hand brush to brush it in, so no loose powder blowing around,

same as i do its alot extra work but its worth it it benefits the birds n looks good

I use Limestone Flour, can be got from most equine supplies, used to be £5-£6.00 a 25kg bag now it's up to £9.00+. They've had a bad harvest as well?.

It's used as a food additive and is very heavy, doesn't blow about at all. A bag lasts for ages.

i just use a sprinkling of loft white and brush it into the wood with no powder thats loose to come back up again.if your having issues with the damp coming through then put some kiln dried sand around the edges, seems it could be rising damp or the boards outside need treated with creosote or something.

stuff i use is colombine but its got a versa laga sticker on the 5kg bag but not on the 25kg very strange

I used stalosan but place I go to doesn't stock it and delivery charges make it too expensive to order on-line. My next choice was crushed natural limestone but my place doesn't do that either. So stuck with floor white which I am certain is crushed limestone at 4x price. Both limestone and floor white should be used sparingly and brushed well in.

does anybody know if "garden lime" is a good alternative ?? or not ? :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Sure my late uncle used lime andy that was 40 + years ago,I have used loft white with no probs but tend to worry lately that being among the birds is starting to affect my health was thinking of purchasing an Aircap has anyone got any Positives or Negatives Regarding Them .

garden or agricultural lime (calcium carbonate) is the stuff I was talking about. Make sure its not an activated or 'hot' lime - that's known to burn the birds eyes. Cheaper to buy in 25kg bags.
