i had one like this last year and within 2-3 weeks cured itself ? i dont know what caused the problem as i was working away, it did no harm to the bird though

its believed that the wind pipe gets blocked and the air breathed in goes straight into the crop,a small needle slowly placed into the affected area and gently squeezed,or use a syringe and needle and draw out the air...a few different ways to cure this.

be very careful not to put the needle into deep ..just slightly in through the skin...pointing away from the bird.

if its air trapped in the air sac not the crop mate.this is called baloon throat.do you by any chance add sterilising fluid or bleach to your drinkers?

I`ve had this happen twice in the last forty years, and only with Cocks. When a cock is showing up and his crop (airsac) inflates, there is a release valve that lets it deflate but sometimes the valve can stick leaving him inflated. a syringe with as big a bore needle as you can get is handy to have in the loft. Just dip the needle in Boiling water to sterilise and pierce the crop, then draw the air from it. It may be that you will have to do this a couple of times over a period of days till the valve starts working properly. Normally the once is enough. I`ve done the same for a few fanciers.A sewing needle also does the trick, then you would put light pressure on the crop to help deflate it. :animatedpigeons: Allan

I've seen this 2 or 3 times. A large bore needle did the trick the first time but because it kept filling with air again it had to be done every day for about a week. The air is not in the crop it's in the air sac. The other two were sorted by making a small cut and gently easing the air out maybe just twice. This caused a lot less stress to the birds and was a lot less messing about.

basically what needs to happen is the valve needs to heal.it wont heal when there is pressure on it with the airsac inflated.the airsac is above the crop and a small cut to the lining of the airsac with a piece of straw poking through to take the air through and the pressure off the valve.the straw should be dipped in iodine and a close eye kept the hole doesnt get infected.
