Clocking Methods

Recommended Posts

Tony, in my own fed it's a gentlemans agreement no rule, but if someone wanted to use ETS the fed couldn't stop them as long as they had people to set it and read it.

You say its a gentlemans agreement not to use it but how in all honestly do you think someone would be received if they suddenly wanted to use it in your club.

I'd be happy, as for young birds I would love to use it. However if only one man wanted to use it, it would be impossible as he wouldn't be able to read and set his own clock, it's down to the willingness.

I remember a local federation, a very famous fancier used ETS, and took the first 10 in the federation. When the federation meeting took place the other club officials refused to check the birds, because they also had a gentlemans agreement. 4 members of this club used ETS that week. The race result was then voided. This fancier could if he wanted to take it to the region, he never did but he would have won the case. The club in question never used ETS again.

they cant stop you using a T3 or any other clock which is past for use by unions, there was something about not using ETS if a club cant get anyone to set them, dont know if this still stands

you are correct fifer one reason is if club does not have power or base station but some clubs now do not have offcial reg clocksetter so cant set manual clocks others just refuse to set manual because of time it takes i know of one clocksetter that only took the job if every one in club used ets because of time what can you do but to be fair everyone in said club had ets through a grant

Thanks for all the comments, if I understand what's been said, they can't stop me using a t3 unless there is a club rule stating all members must use ets ? Is that the gist of it ? Thanks again, mick

yes but only if club have offcial union reg manual clocksetter then you have a case m8

The club cant have a rule that overrides an existing RPRA rule, they would be breaking RPRA rule 231 if they insist you use ETS.

Going back to your first posting you said you were hoping to join this club,if you refuse to use the ETS they might turn down your application so really you would have to agree,as they are not compelled to give a reason why they turned you down.

I was in much the same position when working in Wales. Due to work commitments I could only race to the ETS system and joined Abergavenny Club. At the first meeting the clock setter intimated he would not be setting ETS and it was the old chesnut " I DONT WANT IT SO YOU ARE NOT GETTING IT ".I never went back and was billed for if memory serves me correctly £600 although I had resigned as soon as possible after that first meeting in March. Beware their is some real B%st%rds out there.

If you are taking that attitude then there is very little chance of your application being successful. The fact that the Club has ETS available for you makes your stance even more puzzling as it's normally the initial cost that is off putting.

The fact that you have a T3 and you expect an official to set & check it, although the Club is all ETS, will be very difficult to enforce.

Clubs can refuse ETS on the grounds that they have no-one competent to operate it, so surely the same ruling can be applied to manual clocks.

When joining a Club the best policy is to go with the flow, not be antagonistic as soon as your foot is through the door. In any of your prospective new fellow Club members are reading this post then I'm afraid you've well & truly blotted your copybook.
