demolition man Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Just a bit of fun:: :emoticon-0140-rofl: when sorting your birds at the end of the season how many of you would be brave enough to select your birds by hand blind folded and why?
greenlands Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Not me mate,I've won races with pigeons you wouldn't look twice at handling wise,eg.cheq.ck.late bred not race till he was a two year old won four on the trot, took two hands to pick him up.Trained him up as a late bred same as a yearling with a bali bell on,my old man used to say we'll listen for him while we're having a cuppa, always last home.Hawk beyond repair sad to say.
adam owen Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 na theres a few ive never liked but ended up good birds so let the basket do the decision making always try to let the ybs av a chance tho
Wiley Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Bert braspenning done something similar I think I remember reading once
gordi.b Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 I usually do my pool sheet blindfold
dal2 Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Why would you be sorting them out at the end of the season by hand? Surely you did that when you selected your ybs by hand?
Guest maricelbill Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Why would you be sorting them out at the end of the season by hand? Surely you did that when you selected your ybs by hand? do you have your eye sign glass under your blindfold?
dal2 Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 do you have your eye sign glass under your blindfold? No mate no much point keekin in the eye of a yb but certainly can tell a lot by handling them? Wouldnt you agree?
Wiley Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 No mate no much point keekin in the eye of a yb but certainly can tell a lot by handling them? Wouldnt you agree? Dal,Could you please explain further as what you can learn about a you g bird just by handling them?
dal2 Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Dal,Could you please explain further as what you can learn about a you g bird just by handling them?Wots your thoughts on tails in the air? Grunting when long since spained(moved)? Not a big fan of too big either I must admit????
Wiley Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Wots your thoughts on tails in the air? Grunting when long since spained(moved)? Not a big fan of too big either I must admit???? Lol Grunting is typical in one line in my family of birds. I prefere medium sized birds but some of my best are on the large side. I personally like my pigeons in the hand to feel like the perfect pear, but I find the most important factor I like to see is a tight vent and tail flight 'being' as one feather.

Wot are your theories on that? If your pigeon held its tail up while handling wot would your thoughts be?

JohnQuinn Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 It doesn't matter what method you use to choose your birds, or what age you do it at, cos you'll almost certainly get something wrong. We like to think we're a lot cleverer than we really are, the percentage of winners and breeders of winners in the VAST MAJORITY of lofts is very very small. I rest my case.
Wiley Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 Ye the single tail feather? Wot are your theories on that? If your pigeon held its tail up while handling wot would your thoughts be? No theories dal, just personal preference. Tail up in the air, tail down, tail balenced the result behind the bird is more important, I have personal preferences but they win all shapes and sizes. If anything I like consistancy in young birds. What are your preferences and thoughts on tail in the air?

JohnQuinn Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 That's more or less what i was saying Steven Mind you for a bit of Fun, i would give it a go just to test ma self, no the doos though, its hard enough as it is.

Its hard enuff getting the ybs home up here(or further up LOL) to have at the end of season so try to select what I think is best when young as I have limited room for ybs!
JohnQuinn Posted November 20, 2012 Report Posted November 20, 2012 I've the opposite problem, far TOO MUCH room and no enough sense to use it wisely, though i swear this year i will sort them out, like last year, the year before etc etc etc
sapper756 Posted November 21, 2012 Report Posted November 21, 2012 I remember Joe Murphy once saying at one of our clubs quizzes, that this was how he selected his stock pairs.
