Chris nr Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 Could someone please tell me what is the best/correct food for this time of year please. I had no idea there was so many different types etc. Regards in advance.
greenlands Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 Are you feeding racing pigeons,if you are there's no need to buy top price feed as long as the feed you use is clean,ie. no dust or contamination. As you are not racing your birds at the minute I would feed them on cheap mixture, surely someone in your area can point you in the right direction,if not a fancier the chap in the corn store should be able to advise and tell you what other fanciers are using.
geordie1234 Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 I have been feeding Bamfords All Rounder through the moult and the doos have had a great moult so far and are in top order for this time of the year
adam owen Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 best all round with seed added twice a week while in moult after the moult they will go on 50% all round 50% barley
Chris nr Posted October 27, 2012 Author Report Posted October 27, 2012 I got a general pigeon mix from an animal feed place local, but they don't really cater for pigeons. I asked at another place and was told they could get many different types, so I just wondered what to get. Im very slowly finding my way. Hoping to pop to pj lofts this week so they should give me some advice too.
geordie1234 Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 on boxing day mines will hit the barley for two weeks
Chris nr Posted October 27, 2012 Author Report Posted October 27, 2012 So I'm guessing barley is common later on then. This might sound absolutely stupid, but does the barley have to be a certain type etc? The only reason I ask is my friend has a farm, and has barley galore in storage.

tiger Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 barley is fine but must be dryed first < malting >
gulkie Posted October 27, 2012 Report Posted October 27, 2012 best all round with seed added twice a week while in moult after the moult they will go on 50% all round 50% barleyTotally agree with your feed same as myself.Barley is an under rated food source But never a 100% have a base feed and add to it instead of changing feeds all the Time.
Chris nr Posted October 27, 2012 Author Report Posted October 27, 2012 Guys, thank you so much for the input. They say every little helps, and your help is much appreciated. Lots to learn, and I'm enjoying the experience.

blue lad Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 Got mine on widowhood and conditioner mixed all though winter . As they fly out all through the winter months .They are looking very well with pics my wife sent me .Each to their own ,
PIGEONPACKMAN Posted October 28, 2012 Report Posted October 28, 2012 doesnt wether he lets his birds out in winter have anything to do with it as some dont let them out so they dont use as much energy and store fat as those that do could use a fattier mixture
