I saw something very interesting on an other site with a pigeon up for auction. What caught my eye was in it's heritage it had a 2nd LNRC Thurso. The LNRC is the combine I race with so it caught my attention I look at these sites but I am not in the Market for buying. Anyhoo what raised my questions even further the bird is stated to be the only bird home on the day, how can this be if it ended up in 2nd place? It just doesn't add up. The seller of this bird isn't to blame as they bought it of a stud.

What I will say is if your in the Market for buying, DO plenty of research on the fancier or family of birds you wish to bring in, meaning check the mans results and see if others are winning with his pigeons. DO look the man in the eye and if you feel you cannot trust him walk away. And what I have noticed over the years the exceptional fanciers do not need to advertise, there advertisement is there results.

you could be wrong you can be only bird on the day and not win the race if the first bird was in the morning with over fly on its side

Very much doubt it on this case Whitty the LNRC radius isn't as big as the nationals like the BICC, NFC, BBC. But as you say I maybe wrong, but the said bird whoever was racing would be a long flyer looking at his distance.

I know the DAX winner at the BIIC rcae which was won by Mr Mrs Kennett was not on the day but there were many day birds much shorter.

The race you speak of may be similar even though as you say a smaller radius, the winner may have been the shorter flyer and timed at 10pm, and the winner may have been the longest flyer timed at 05.01am

There was a father & son partnership that packed up a few years ago flying out of Croydon (I think). Am racking my brain thinking of their name.

could have been home on 2nd day and only bird on the day ?/ lots of combinations, but if you have doubt ,dont bid. i think if genuine enough an explanation would/should be given. :emoticon-0138-thinking:

I think that there are lots of reasons why you should be very careful with pedigrees. This is especially true if the Breeder keeps the birds in a colony because as we all know the sire may not be the biological father. Then there are the mistakes in writing the pedigrees which can and do happen and lastly it is not unknown for pedigrees to be made up. I am often impressed at the Louella pedigrees. They are very cleverly written so that they can get every ounce of credit for the bird referred to.

Back a while ago when I was buying birds I wanted birds that had proven their worth on the road. So I spoke to the Seller and found out what Club he had flown in and followed up by telephoning the Club Sec to find out how many members were competing. After that I felt I was in a position to know what sort of loft the bird was from and whether or not the Seller was genuine. It certainly worked because I was lucky enough to buy some very good pigeons.

It would be interesting to find out what year this bird was 2nd and who raced it.

could possibly be as whitty says ryan could be beaten by an early morning bird all it takes is a bir to be timed a minute before closing time and 1 on opening hours in morning or even before and the next day bird could easily win it dpending on the distance etc , also alot are very economical with the truth ie only fed bird on the day only club bird on day by omitting the word club or fed they are not lying as such but not portraing a true picture

ie 1st club only bird on day in club or 1st fed only bird on day in fed 2nd combine ??

loads of variants but finding the result should put all to bed

The pigeon................. did they name it 'Home Alone' or something along them lines. :emoticon-0138-thinking:

Tony, the pigeon was called DETERMINATION. To me it sounds if it was raced by someone over New Eltham way as they are racing 512 miles. It is an 01 pigeon, and owned by Warren Foster did he ever race?

Isn't research also asking questions to find an answer, my friend.

STB, I think you might have hit the nail on the head with the variations with it being 1st federation I expect it to be the only bird on the day

Joe Smith on here may have a better memory than me.

Think Foster is in the LNRC radius but couldn't find him on the Thurso results 1998-2001

Tony do you have any results from later date? GB 01 F 20290 is the pigeons ring number?

No Ryan, cant even put my hand on the 2001 ring list which I'm sure I have somewhere here.
