Hi I have found a pigeon today .

Have absolutely no idea about pigeons .

The only id I can see is a red tag on leg with NL 2012 1567811

Any ideas ?

have fed and watered it and it has perked up now . No idea how to keep it so will leave it in my shed for the time being .

I am not suggesting that you phone as it would be difficult for the owner to get it back home to the Netherlands, unless it flew home of its own accord

Yup suffolk ;-)

how the heck did it find it's way to cambourne ,cambridge . found it there this morning at work . Looked very sorry for itself and followed us around on building site . I drive excavators and had to put it in the back of my cab as it was walking around near my tracks . sat quite happily in the back window while I was working . Door was open so it could have flown off if it wanted . Ended up putting it in a box in my van with some water and food . By the time I got back to Bury st Edmunds it had perked up .

Have checked the wings and nothing I can see , guessed the NL was netherlands after looking on here .

what do i do with it ?

My two cats would love me to keep it :-) but cute as it is 2 cats 2 tortoises and 2 African snails is about our limit .

I think you need to find a local pigeon fancier to care for the bird. It was probably exhausted if you were able to catch it so easily. If it had time to recover maybe there could be a way found to get it back to its homeland.

this bird will be a fancy show pigeon,it may be regestered with the national pigeon association.lots of show pigeons are bought from holland, germany and spain.they are then regestered to the npa.contact a guy called greame giddings.the pigeon will have come from a loft near to where you found it.

The NPA website says don't bother contacting them if there's no NPA ring on the bird ?

anyone got contacts for a pigeon man near Bury St . Edmunds ?

hi mate

just keep in a box with food and water and it will soon build it strength up

small seeds are ideal if it is low if you have any or can get hold of some, if bird is low dont feed it large wheat like beans as it may cause more damage than help

it will also eat rice if that is all you have (put rice in blender before giveing bird).

Have got bird seed from sainsbury's . It seems happy in its box but surely it needs some daylight ?

No-one got any contacts for a pigeon fancier in Bury St. Edmunds ?

There is supposed to be a racing club based here but I can't find any address or contact details on the net .

spoken to the owner in holland . Thank you redcheqhen.

He said it is a young long distance pigeon was released in France two weeks ago . He said it would find it's way home ok and he will let us know when it returns .

So will put him/her in garden maybe tomorrow and see if it wants to fly off ?

i would still give the bird to a fancier in your area if you can

as the bird will need to be in realy good condition to make an attempt

to go home from that far away and need the weather conditions in its faviour

thanks for taking the time to help this missing bird

Mr B Smith from Elmswell kindly came and picked the pigeon up today . He has promised to look after it .He said it was not strong enough to make it back to Holland .

Kind regards to you all .
