May Vic wish the Newcastle fans the very best of luck in their bid to stay up. Just been listening to Alan Shearer, and if he performs as a manager, half as good as he did playing, You may just about make it! Good luck to you all! :'(

Well is that in toatl?  like England's Top 3 goal scorers are:

Bobby Charlton (1958-1970) with 49 goals in 106 appearances.

Gary Lineker (1984-1992) with 48 goals in 80 appearances.

Jimmy Greaves (1959-1967) with 44 goals in 57 appearances.

Or ratio to games per goals?

Like the greatest being Jimmy Greaves with 44 goals in just 57 appears. More goals than Shearer, and less games of course.

In fact no one is anywhere near Greasie in that respect.

Other facts and records that might be of an interest are ........

England Records

The first international match played by England took place on 30th November 1872 against Scotland in Glasgow. The final score was 0-0.

RECORD WIN - England 13 Ireland 0 - Belfast, Feb 18, 1882.

RECORD WIN AT WEMBLEY - England 9 Luxembourg 0 - Wembley, Dec 15, 1982.

RECORD DEFEAT - England 1 Hungary 7 - Budapest, May 23, 1954.

BIGGEST HOME ATTENDANCE - 100,000 England v Scotland - Wembley, May 26 1979.

BIGGEST AWAY ATTENDANCE - 160,000 Brazil v England - Maracana Rio, May 13 1959.

LOWEST ATTENDANCE - 2,378 England v San Marino - Bologna, Nov 17 1993.

Bobby Charlton is England's highest ever goal scorer with 49 goals. Gary Lineker is close behind with 48.

Gary Lineker is the only England player to win the Golden Boot at the world cup finals, after he netted six times in the 1986 tournament in Mexico.

Jimmy Greaves holds the record for the most international goals scored for England in one season, when he netted 13 times in the 1960/61 season.

Jimmy Greaves also has the best goals to games ratio in England history. He scored 44 goals in 57 games. That's an average of one goal every 1.3 games.

Bryan Robson scored the fastest ever England goal, during the 1982 World Cup Finals in Bilbao. He netted after just 27 seconds in their opening match against France on June 16 1982.

Bryan Robson also holds the record for the fastest England goals scored at Wembley -

38 seconds vs. Yugoslavia - Dec 13, 1989 and 44 seconds vs. N.Ireland - Feb 23, 1982.

Willie Hall scored the fastest ever England hat-trick in just 31/2 minutes against Ireland, at Old Trafford, on Nov 16, 1938.

Tinsley Lindley of Cambridge University holds the record for the most consecutive goals scored for England, when he netted in 9 International matches in a row.

Peter Shilton is the most capped England player of all time. The goalkeeper holds the record after playing 125 games for his country.

Billy Wright compiled the most consecutive amount of caps for England. He made 70 appearances in a row for his country between Oct 1951 and May 1959.

Billy Wright and Bobby Moore were England's longest serving captains with 90 caps apiece as the team's leader.

James Prinsep became the youngest player to ever represent England. He was just 17 years and 252 days old when played against Scotland on April 5, 1879.

The youngest player to be capped for England in the 20th Century was Michael Owen. When he played against Chile on Feb 11 1998 he was aged just 18 years and 59 days.

Michael Owen is also England's youngest ever goal scorer. He netted against Morocco in Casablanca, aged 18 years and 147 days, on May 27 1998.

England's youngest ever captain was Bobby Moore. He first led his country aged 22 years and 48 days, in England's 4-2 win over Czechoslovakia on May 29, 1963.

Stanley Matthews is the oldest player to ever represent his country. On his last appearance for England against Denmark in Copenhagen on May 15, 1957, he was 42 years and 104 days old.

Stanley Matthews is also the oldest player ever to score for England. He was 41 years and 248 days old, when he scored against N.Ireland in Belfast on Oct 6, 1956.

The oldest player ever to make his debut for England was Leslie Compton against Wales at Roker Park on Nov 15, 1950. He was 38 years and 2 months old.

Alan Mullery was the first England player to be sent off when he was red carded against Yugoslavia, in Florence on June 5, 1968.

Paul Scholes was the first player to be sent off on English soil when he was dismissed against Sweden at Wembley on June 5, 1999.

The first England substitute was Jimmy Mullen who replaced Jackie Milburn after 10 minutes against Belgium on May 18,1950.

England's Top 3 goal scorers are:

Bobby Charlton (1958-1970) with 49 goals in 106 appearances.

Gary Lineker (1984-1992) with 48 goals in 80 appearances.

Jimmy Greaves (1959-1967) with 44 goals in 57 appearances

Posted

Other Leading Goal Scorers:

Tom Finney (30 goals from 76 appearances – 1946-1958)

But for ratio, these are also very impressive

Nat Lofthouse (30 from 33 – 1950-58)

Vivian Woodward (29 from 23 – 1903-11)

Steve Bloomer (28 from 23 – 1895-1907)

David Platt (27 from 62 – 1989-96)

Shearer's Alan Shearer (30 from 63 – 1992-2000) doesn't look quite so impressive really now does it? :-/

Owens actually score the same ratio

Michael Owen has scored 40 goals for England from 88 appearances. With England undergoing change under new manager Fabio Capello, Owen is the only current player who could challenge Charlton’s record. However, fitness problems in the past seasons have restricted his appearances and he will need to re-establish himself in the England team.

Owen made his debut against Chile in 1998 but it was his fourth game against Morocco before he scored. His most memorable goal scoring performance for England is his hat-trick against Germany in the 5-1 World Cup qualifying victory.

He has also scored a hat-trick in a friendly against Columbia.
