Guest ghenty Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 Gave my first 8 babies their freedom last night! Fairly chaotic, especially living in a terraced street whe they can land all over the place! Ended up with 5 back in the loft last night but off work today so fingers crossed for the others. They were a little old to be honest, hatched on April 17th, but as my Grandad always says, "they've got 2 choices..." I'd be fairly happy to get another 1 back, giving me 75% returns. Funny thing though, I had 4 white grizzles, 1 blue grizzle and 3 reds/mealies and the 3 missing are the 3 reds? Strange thing this pigeon game!

hotrod Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 Getter birds out this morn any hanging around will soon come in with others .
Guest ghenty Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 Biggest issue for me is that I don't have any old birds to use to keep the youngsters close by or use to get them in. The ones I have at the minute I am just playing about with until next season really so will be able to use these to help keep my babies in the future!

Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 Flip side no oldies to show them bad habits. Thats a big plus
THE FIFER Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 I have 2 westies I keep with my young birds, and if any adrift the westies are left out so as to attract them, but I like getting my youngsters out very soon after weaning to get a look around, i wean my youngsters in the sputnik for a few days until i see they are eating and drinking and able to fend for themself amongs the others which have been weaned earlier, so when out on the landing board they drop in easy knowing the sputnik,
Guest ghenty Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 Great news! Got 2 more back in today so just missing one now, and I have seen that one diving about the sky. Really chuffed with getting over that first hurdle. Hard part is done now! Going to light feed them again tomorrow night and go for it again on Saturday evening!

Wiley Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 I'd give a miss Saturday and sunday going to be a lot of hold overs this weekend you don't want your birds dragged around the country
Guest ghenty Posted June 14, 2012 Report Posted June 14, 2012 Don't want to leave it too long to get them out again. Can't get them out tomorrow night as they will have too much grub in them, so thought Saturday after 5.00pm will have allowed all the big kits to clear. I live near the centre of Leicester anyway so there are so many townies going over it is like a racing day every day! I shall live by the sword and die by the sword! Weather permitting obviously and from what I have seen the weather is not great for Saturday as previously mentioned.
Guest ghenty Posted June 15, 2012 Report Posted June 15, 2012 Got the final 1 in tonight after 48 hours away! Back to a full house ready for going out again tomorrow!

Guest ghenty Posted June 16, 2012 Report Posted June 16, 2012 I totally agree Geordie, my Grandad preaches it. So as of tonight it is out very night wether permitting, feeding between 7 and 8pm. Should be back from work 90% of the time using those times. Hope the second release goes well tonight!
