Guest IB Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 I think it’s wrong not to use our own transporters to convey pigeons back to their home area for release there, and wrong to say the General Licence conditions stop it from happening. These conditions (specifically about the transporter), were designed to cover the transport of racing pigeons from a given area to a liberation site, where those birds would be released and fly back to the same area the transporter brought them from. The return of lost pigeons was never factored into them – there was no real need for it back then since we had a pigeon courier that covered all of Britain at a cost of £25. But that has changed, costs have doubled and time taken to repatriate birds has increased, you usually need to give the courier maybes a week’s notice now. I have had a quick skim through the General Licence conditions and can find nothing in them that says that you can’t do it – there is nothing saying pigeons cannot be returned in an empty transporter. But as always I believe when a new need is identified, then it should be made known to the authorities with a request that the repatriation arrangement be regularized by having it specifically included in the General Licence arrangements. JMO. Have a gander for yourself. http://archive.defra.gov.uk/foodfarm/farmanimal/diseases/atoz/ai/documents/ai-bird-flu-general-licence.pdf
THE FIFER Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 if those strays are race rung they will be registered with their club as being vaccinated
