mickyfin Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 hi lads, i have recently become very interested in racing pigeons, and now thinking of starting up, i kept them as a boy, but didnt race them, i have recently visited some local fanciers, and seen their birds arrive from the race, this seems to have brought the "old interest" back again, i am under no illusions how hard it is, also how expensive it can be, but would be very grateful in any tips or info from any experienced fanciers, in starting up. thanking you in advance, mickyfin

THE FIFER Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 welcome m8, you are in the right place for advice and help, have a good look around the site plenty to read and take part in
Poppy Loft Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 From my recent experience of setting up from scratch, I would recommend buying a decent garden shed and converting it as buying a purpose built loft could prove very expensive. I'm sure like me you will find local fanciers and people on here more than generous in helping out with birds and equipment. This forum is also a fantastic place for gaining knowledge with every topic being covered at one time or another, I have spent many a happy hour reading various threads. Good luck and welcome to a fantastic sport!
sapper756 Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 A warm welcome to the site m8, where are you from?http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/animatedpigeons.gif
mickyfin Posted April 28, 2012 Author Report Posted April 28, 2012 thanks for the welcome and advice, the local fanciers i have spoken to have been really helpful and encouraging, unfortunately at the moment my computer has broken down so im using a friends computer for the moment, who in fact advised me to join this forum, i hope to get mine up and running soon. i live near gorebridge, i like the idea of buying a second hand garden hut or something similar, so i thank the previous poster for that advice. i have had offers of later bred young birds, but been told i need to have patience before i dive in.any advice would be grateful mick
THE FIFER Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 you can make a good loft from a garden shed m8,
OLDYELLOW Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 If was building a new loft 2 x 2 and shutter board 8 x 4 sheets the more single pieces there is the more likely it is to leak and you can build it how yer like then
