I've never encountered this before and would say its unusual.
Poppy Loft Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 I've never encountered this before and would say its unusual. Bird handles well and is eating and drinking plenty, also flies out to aviary with the rest.
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 Two weeks ago there was only 12 hours of natual darkness before you put them onto enforced darkness. If your young birds were weaned for a few weeks before going onto the darkness then this is possibly why they have cast flights.Have delibertly done this in the past as you don't have problems with trying to get traditional darkness pigeons through the moult. Downside is that by the time the 1st of September comes they can SOMETIMES be on there 8th and 9th flight which puts them past there best for the longer young bird races at the end of the season.
kirky Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 if thay were early bred thay should have been on dark when weaned, if you only put them on past 2-3 weeks thay will have already started the natural moult.

maverick Posted March 29, 2012 Report Posted March 29, 2012 go into loft when darkened down and you will see if any light is coming in remember a nail hole in the front of the loft will show up as a large spot of light on the back wall
