Guest johnmd94 Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Easybed good or bad yb, widwhood hens, widowhood cocks and stock?
Guest bigda Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Easybed good or bad yb, widwhood hens, widowhood cocks and stock?better with beech chip if the shed is dry then mix is some soberall, then you dont need to touch it for a year or 2 just riddle and rake as it all turns into powder
Tony C Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Good for stock, w/hood cocks & y/birds. Not good for w/hood hens as they'll make hollows in it and nest.
Wiley Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 easy bed is great stuff although this year i am trying something new
andy Burgess Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 brilliant stuff , reccomend it , dont use alternatives imo . and as Tony.C. says very true.
Guest johnmd94 Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 I prefer hempcore any reason for that or is it just a personal preferance paul?
OLDYELLOW Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 any reason for that or is it just a personal preferance paul?Easy bed is shredded pallets , hempcore is just my preference and composts much faster
yeboah Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Have used Easibed for a fair number of years ideal for weaning youngsters into a section and stock,Handy to use in lofts when going on holiday makes the job easy for loft manager just having to water and feed, never use in racing sections during season as i like to keep the loft spic and span, downside trailing it outside and into the house, and since they made the bags smaller it has went up in price.
ivory Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Don't know what happened there. I intended to mention a similar product called BED DOWN. Very good.
Fly_caster Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Easi-Bed is good - but I prefer Hempcore. I used Easi-Bed at my old loft for a year before I built my new loft. I still use both, and find the hemcore better at composting the dung than the EasiBed which is much coarser. Not much in it - down to personal preference I'd say. ATB, Steve
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Used Easibed PLUS in the young bird loft last year and was happy with it, hard to source in Scotland and a couple of pound dearer than the usual Easibed.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted November 30, 2011 Report Posted November 30, 2011 Agree with Bigda on this one, cannae see by the beechwood chips Not for widowhood hens though as the birds like lying in it so it'd encourage them to pair,I've had birds in the past building nest in it. If you've not got grills or single boxes for your widowhood hens scatter a couple of tubes of tennis balls on the floor.

Guest geordiejen Posted December 6, 2011 Report Posted December 6, 2011 doesnt anyone get any problems with bloom from the birds getting into the air too much?i know the birds tend to love raking through it and i suppose it keeps them occupied but what is the drawbacks with deep litter.
OLDYELLOW Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Drawbacks with deep litter , if your loft is not well ventilated and your litter not dressed with lime damp areas or litter that's not dried can occur , ammonia can build up in the loft and create with sunshine / heat toxic gas . Only other draw back is some birds try to nest in it
