Location can be a big part of it , however good pigeons should win in any wind , you can bet if your getting hammered then your probably doing the same thing each week , same thing gets same results experiment little tweaks here and there . You can also bet that there up early sorting there birds out there under control and managed properly , you'l never top the fed whilst sleeping in bed how true is that , Pigeon thrive on strict routine , you can bet his food is measured in one form or another no matter of what feed mix he's using . So firstly you need the right birds , a good man can push a bad bird up the result a bit but he won't ever get it to win . I'm sure if your birds aren't hitting there heights then look at firstly yourself your management , where can improvements be made . Stock forget strains think results strains and pedigrees were only ever invented to hike up jumped up pigeons to create more money for those that want to sell pigeons , stay clear of auctions unless there bereavement or charity auctions , watch results aim to buy a few pigeons that come from birds with the results you want you might not get them from the fed winner but a few down from the fed winner may be a possibility . Those that get results put the work in right birds right management and a good sprinkling of luck . My uncle would say 'p*ss poor preparation will only ever mean p*ss poor performance' .

DJW, you have got it spot on with the 4 ingredients you have mentioned. Location is fantastic to have as with it comes belief that if you get the blood put the work in then you can be handsomly rewarded and your efforts are not in vain as some fanciers in many parts of the feds throughout the UK are.

That said you can't help were you live and the top fanciers should always be applauded.jmo

A long time ago when i thought keeping my birds in my shed letting them out each day training them a couple of times a week then sending them on friday night was all i had to do.

i was happy to see my birds come home but wondered why i was behind every week.

i was lucky that a fellow club member came to my shed and handled my birds-he said all his birds would beat mine every week untill i got them healthy,i was suprised as they flew around ok.

he picked up one bird held its beak to extend its neck and asked me to listen to the back of the neck--there was a gurgling noise.

he said untill they are put right i will take your pool money every week.

thats when my learning started-so healthy birds ,next you have to send to races with the birds in the right condition[as they say fat greyhounds dont win races]then you have to motivate them.

HEALTH-CONDITION -MOTIVATION if the birds are good enough they will get on the results

TROUBLE IS GUYS IN MY FED HAVE HEALTHIER BETTER CONDITION AND MOTIVATE THEM BETTER THAN ME ,as the best i got was 2nd fed
