john cumming Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 in my experience i had to show and pretty much apply splints when i took one bird to the vet, and another time when i was there when a bird had an eye infection the vet said she did not have the best knowledge on pigeons, the bill was £49.60 but only charged me £20.00 as i did most of the work on the bird i was charged for the cream basically but found out the same cream can be purchased for less than a tenner?? im not saying i was ripped off but it does make you wonder what you are exactly paying for?? john :emoticon-0127-lipssealed:

peter pandy Posted November 7, 2011 Report Posted November 7, 2011 My gun dogs were infected with mange from rolling about in fox dirt. Vet wanted £75 for cream to treat them. I told him to get lost and purchased a tube of Germoline "pink" £2 and they were cleaned up in 4 days.

fid Posted November 8, 2011 Report Posted November 8, 2011 when i brought my stock birds over to portugal in april i had to get a letter from a vet to certify my birds were vaccinated for parramixo etc and hWad a clean bill of health.when i collected the document i asked for the bill and he replied No Charge. So i would say not all vets are out to rip you off.Just as well because no bugger at any border control even looked at them or the dug lol.

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted November 11, 2011 Report Posted November 11, 2011 Just back from the vets-they're a useless bunch down there.Went with the intention of picking up the PMV vaccine I ordered this week. Its there but they don't know the price of it I asked for 100 doses and was told over the phone I'd get two boxes of 50 costing £13 each, thought this sounded a good enough price. Went in just now and was told the woman who knowsthe actual price isn't back in til Tuesday and they had three prices on the screen £13 for 50 doses,£26 for 50 doses and £29 for 50 doses. Will see what one the wife picks on on Tuesday....
