Guest Gareth Rankin Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 If a charity auction is to held on basics would it not be better to try and hold one that would benefit the pigeon sport. PLP "Pigeonbasics loft Plots" Run on the following points 1. One authority/council be approached by pigeonbasics or one of its members about leasing a large plot of land which must be in a large town. 2a. Contact be made with the government to see if help can be given to the project by, such as criminals doing community service, these could be used to prepare the land for the new lofts, i.e. fence and build foundations. 2b. Council training workshops be contacted to see if it is possible for lofts, perches, nestboxes and loft dowelled divisions be made free of charge excluding the cost of the materials which would have to be met by pigeonbasics. 3. The new plot of land would be split into 8 compounds. 4. Pigeonbasics would purchase/provide 8 new 24 foot by 6 foot pigeon lofts. 5. Pigeonbasics would lease the compound free of charge to new pigeon fanciers which would be a on a 1 year rolling contract. 6. Pigeonbasics would purchase 8 new or second hand clocks which would be leased along with the loft. 7. Pigeonbasics would provide a different mentor for each of the new members. 8. Application forms to lease one of the compounds would be handed out at many different points in the town selected, including a write up in the local paper which would be saying there are no start up costs. 9. Free or discounted club membership would be encouraged for year 1 and 2 at club, fed and union level. 10. All applicants would be selected by a 3 man panel. Cost This would possibly be £1000 - £1200 per compound???? Pigeonbasics have been great in assisting members who have been affected by arson but would it not be great if a project on the scale of the above be successful and go a little way towards helping the longevity of the sport.
Guest homestead Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Situated where ENGLAND IRELAND SCOTLAND WALES near my house your house fifers house gareth rankins house a good idea but the cost of the lofts alone would be £1000's of pounds.....
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Not too fussed where it happens, the most important part is getting the right man from the selected area who can communicate and be extremely resourceful when dealing with councils and governmental depts. The man selected will have a great deal of work on his plate in organising of everything but the reward would be that he has potentially eight new members of his club. The cost for each loft possibly could be higher than the 1200 that I have quoted but with help from the right places at helping a dying institution then it may well be possible. PsHaven't posted the idea to be selfish and help myself and my club, truth be told I would rather someone else who has the same enthusiasm as myself take it on board as I have other family health issues to deal with at present.
buster151 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 imo it's a great idea and well worth looking into just looking at it from my own situation if there was something like this it would have been a big big help to me :emoticon-0137-clapping:
geordie1234 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Personally i think the allotment idea is a great idea, when I first started it took me ages to persuade my missus to have the doos at my house meanwhile I was trying to get into allotments at Cambuslang which was told no room and then the same at Blantyre luckily for me I got the doos at my house but how many people dont get the chance at there house or have thought about it but its a non starter because there isn't any room in the allotments
REDROCKET Posted October 4, 2011 Author Report Posted October 4, 2011 great idea but this could never work to start with the council would be wanting rent money for the plots the guy nominated to run things would be wanting payed the price of the lofts the upkeep of the plots and not to mention the cost to p/b members via sales ect i for one wouldnt like to be forking out for our own hobby and also for someone else's aswell especially if he was beating me every week.lol, jmo
Roland Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Don't for a moment think the cost of a loft is much. Nothing like the prices advertised! Yes of the 'Built' and over inflated price of wooden ones maybe, understandably. But when a frame is covered via plastic, and a wire roof under a false roof. When sliding doors are used... well the reality is that it is a fraction of the costs. Maybe my son -in - law would make them up... a Darn good chippie who has built some cracking stables at a very good price indeed. Maybe - like mine - some would have wooden perches and nest boxes. But again these aren't really dear if one makes them up. JMO. Other than that I think that Gareth Rankin has made a valid and very good point.

Dont see anyone whose nominated charging for a little of his time, remember the new members will be on rolling contracts so it is in there interest to keep the lofts and plots up to a reasonable standard. I would love a new member thats been given help by pigeonbasics to beat me, well maybe one week.
geordie1234 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Would love to know myself how to get a plot off the council tried before and got nowhere
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 Would love to know myself how to get a plot off the council tried before and got nowhereHave little experience myself George but usually your local councillor is a port of call who would put you in the right direction.
geordie1234 Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 I spent about 3 weeks getting passed from pillar to post from the council gave in in the end, noo i will have to stick to my wee hen hut in the back lol but if a compound came up I would take it in a flash nae neighbours to bother me etc would be piece and quiet
Guest homestead Posted October 4, 2011 Report Posted October 4, 2011 with cut backs ect those allotments that are not profitable are being sold off and the ones that are left there's a couple off years waiting list to get on. Then they dont want livestock some councils might be good but others can make millions off the land.
