I was thinking about this the other day although it only takes me on average 40 minutes to scrap/clean out boxes and give boxes/floor a go over with some water and a few drops of bleach i was wondering what other fanciers cleaning rutines is

i was also wondering if there is anything i could do for those nooks and crannies that are hard to get to IE could i make a spray up to get into those corners ect to kill off any nastys lurking in there or is there a product specificly for such a task ? i was looking at diffrent cleaning products on a pigeon supply site but as some of you might know there are hundreds of products and it can be a bit dounting for a novice

one i did like the sounds of was harkers dry powder but i dont know if the birds would come to any harm if they came into contact with it ?

I use easy bed on the floors of my lofts. I think it is originally used for horses it is dust fee etc. I then scrape all the perches into a bucket. I change the bedding regularly the birds seem to enjoy having it on the floor particularly the young ones. I have used V18 (i think thats the number) as a disinfectant it can be sprayed etc.

Sounds good that dose :) would that be vanodine by anychance ?

Not sure mate i think its a trade name could be wrong. I personally don't like a lot of water on the floor even if it has bleach in it. I like the loft to be bone dry. I even have the drinkers on mesh panels that allow ventelation in but also allows any water spilt to drain out.

Some people use sand i think there is many ways to rome. I scrape out every day however i prefer to use the time watching/enjoying the birds so don't spend hours on it. I think most people find what works for them and then stick to it. No 2 fanciers have the same methods.

Yes, its Vanodine V18 an iodine-based bleach that can also be used in the drinker.

My own set-up is deep litter on the floors, which I rake over once a week, removing & binning top. I scrape perches and boxes once a day, bag & bin daily.

I use a dry disinfectant, Stalosan. Have used Harkers Loft Treatment in past, much same sort of thing, both are a powder that gets in those nooks & crannies & sticks.

i know that areas of damp can rapidly become a problem the good thing is when i clean the floor the door is allways open + the two front panels so theres plenty of air movement it dose not take long to dry :)

im a bit of a clean freak at the best of times and i treat my loft no diffrent to my house lol scraped out twice a day boxes sponged out with bleach and water then i wash my nest box grills every two days lol! i like the idea of the dry powder and V18 i might invest some pennies in them

i scrape out the lofts perches and boxes maybe twice a week and only give the loft an overhaul once a week thats do the floor steep the drinkers in thin bleach and brush out the feed hoppers of seed thats been untouched.i keep a bottle of vykil in the loft but use it only when i susspect something may be wrong with a bird.i have one of those pump sprayers and go over the loft after every big cleanout sparingly with thin bleach and warm water.not too much as i dont want to get the loft wet.usually dries up pretty quick.i wouldnt say by any stretch of the imagination i was a clean freak but i do not like spending time with the birds in a loft that smells or pigeon sh** gets clogged in the loft shoes.

I scrape the floors each day, five sections about fifteen minutes. The throw down a hand full of cat litter in each, which drys the floor completely. Then once a week,I scrape all the perches, nest boxes and floors and spray with jays fluid. Then jet wash the averys.Which takes about a hour and a half. Also I soak the drinkers and feeders in bleech once a week. yep i find that sometimes if the sun has been out first thing in the morning before i open the perspex hatches you do get that sh*t smell i also cannot abide walking in pigeon poop hence why i scrape floor twice a day lol

i also love spending time in there with them often when im scraping the lower boxes or scraping the x2ft box extension a few birds hop on my back there is even one who thinks he/she is a parrot and will sit on my shoulder and have a nibble at my ear allways brings a smile to my face when i look round and see this little face looking back at me almost to say " whares breakfast baldy"
