First time i had Yb sickness from birds introduced ,sent them all training when they returned they sat on roof and you would have though they had flown 1000 miles ,No good isolating it jmo if one has it they will all have it sure it is a airborne virus ,after treated looked great and put them into a race after 2-3 weeks not nearly enough time because if they faced a stiff test they went down like drogba, biggest problem members putting them into hampers when they no all is not well and keeping quite about it .

do a random check in the morning to see if they are retaining seed in there crop, if the crops are empty then not much to worry about but do keep man eye on them and check once again the following morning.

if seed has been retained overnight then you have YBS, starve for 48 hours then build up from there with a light mix (depurative or diat)

Tyke and Frank-123, PM me your addresses and I will send you something to try.

I pride myself in getting youngsters well if they have any problems associated with young bird sickness, green slimy muck, bringing up corn, corn packed in the crop etc. I only ever use antibiotics as a last resort, only three or four of my birds have had antibiotics in the last four or five years. I use colloidal silver and elderberry juice and the best I’ve done is had them out training within three days. It can take up to two weeks though if they have caught something from wild doos coming into the loft.

A couple of weeks ago I had one that I was ready to give up on after more than two weeks but I tried some thing new, which worked magic. It had green slimy muck and I had been hand feeding it for a while because it was just a bag of bones. Eleven O clock at night I gave it some of this new stuff and when I got up for work at six it was standing at the feeder eating, not only that, it's muck had changed to more like watery layers meal. It was put out with the rest of the youngsters a few days later and is doing great now.

I will be more than happy to send you some to test. If you let the site know it works then I will publish the name of the product, it's very cheap but it's pointless me telling everybody the name of it, they all rush out and buy it, then find it's useless.

All I can say is worked for me so you are welcome to try it if you want.

This may be a daft question but could a yearling get ybs or is it only young birds i.e that years young?

old birds can pick up the virus but have a stronger immune system to fight it off

There was a report in BHW a few years ago which said that old birds up to 2 y-o had come down with it, and that writer referred to YBS as Young Bird Syndrome. Opinions differ, but it is thought to be caused by a virus in OBs which they too had caught as YBs, from OBs, possibly their own parents.

My mate lost a yearling the other day(died) that had the exact symptoms of the bird at the start of this topic. It only lasted 24hrs from the first signs to death. Since then we have another 4 yearlings between us that are starting to show similar signs. Not responding to feed whistle, sitting puffed up,watery faeces,in general just not themselves. They are in with young birds but none of the young uns of this year are looking off. Any ideas anyone?

It’s a food supplement called Graviola and comes from the bark and leaves of a tree that grows in the Tropics, give it a Google. The front of the container says “Supports Immune Functionâ€. You can buy it on the web for about £12:00 for 100 capsules. The quantity you had was from 5 capsules. If each bird for treatment is given a dose the size of a match head, each capsule would treat between 8 and 10 birds so £12:00 gives you enough for 800 to 1,000 birds. The bird I gave it to was in such a poor state that I should have culled it really; it’s out flying with the rest of the youngsters now this product was its last chance. I would not exceed the match head size dose as it can drop blood pressure.

Adenosan from Chevita, put it on the corn. Moisen the corn with a little water then add the Adenosan. Trust me a week on this and they will be super.

We have used it on the old birds if they are looking a little s**t also.
