geordie1234 Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 In that case no i wouldnt 5 year is too long maybe 1-2 years ok bt not 5 You are soon forgot about in this game would the big difference if there is one be in the techniques used from years back in other wards would the birds be as quick with the modern techniques or has both moved on Surely a top notch fancier would change techniques etc to stay on top
Wiley Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 i'd only buy of someone winning currently, they have to be on the up and not on the way down

Tony C Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Yes. IMO the modern day pigeon is faster but lacks the constitution of the 'yesteryear' pigeons.

Tony C Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 Tony would you buy them pigeons now. Their Vel then was say around 1000 yds now a days they would be doing well over 1200 yds ? Yes, I wouldn't have a loft full but a few that I could depend on. Many times I've sat waiting for pigeons on a hard day wishing I still had a few of them hardy types representing me. I used to house them but like most they made way for today's faster pigeons and in hindsight I wish I kept a few pair back. Horses for courses come to mind.
Blue Chequer Pied Posted July 7, 2011 Report Posted July 7, 2011 There are a lot of older guys who are not fit to put the work in that they did a few years ago and maybe as a result their performances have dipped somewhat. It may be more to do with the man than the doo's. So I would have no hesitation in aquiring doo's if I thought they were good enough.
